How was the turnout at the midnight shows around the country? I decided I'm getting too old, so I decided to pass. I will definitely see it today (*cough*longlunch*cough).
The turnout was great here in Miami.

The Ziegfeld was practically empty.
The theatre I went to is near U of M so that had a lot to do with it.
Well, keep in mind the Ziegfeld seats 1200 people, so what would be a decent crowd at the multiplex looks tiny there. I'd say that there were 200-300 people last night for the midnight show. It sure was a fun, enthusiastic group, though.
PS: Madbrian: I'll bet I'm way older than you, so I took a little snooze on the couch from 9-10 and was good to go for the rest of the night
It wasn't that crowded here in Baltimore, but I'm just going to assume that's because everyone went to the premier or didn't know about this midnight showing.
What an incredible movie!

Dallas was pretty full! The front section (probably about 1/5 of the theater) was completely empty, most of everything behind it was pretty full. I'd say maybe 250-300 people? People seemed to like the movie. Dallas Morning News has it on the front page of the GuideLive section--an A-, and Chuck and Larry with a D.
Star-Telegram gave "Hairspray" a *** out of 5. "Chuck and Larry" was ** out of 5.
SF there were not that many, probably because the theater it is showing at is very new and not many people know it is there. It is at the Century Theater in DOWNTOWN but it's on the 5th floor and many people don't no it is playing there, they assume the Metreon has it and they don't.
Ziegfeld was pretty empty, but so much fun.
The Arclight in Hollywood was probably (rough estimate) 3/4 full. but the audience loved the movie.
AMC in West Covina was about 1/4...1/2 full
an okay size of people
but we all had an abolsute blast
