Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely be purchasing this.

I also purchased the recently released: "West Side Story: The Jets, The Sharks and the Making of a Classic" by Richard Barrios. It's an exhaustive look at the musical with it's primary focus being the making of the 1961 film version, there's a chapter that covers the upcoming remake so the new Bouzereau book will be a nice companion piece to it.

Bouzereau did an excellent job with the recent HBO documentary, "Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind."

Carlos - what do you think of the pix in the book you posted? Lots of unique shots or likely things a fan would already have seen? I'm asking because while I love a fancy, coffee table book, I prefer a kindle version if the graphics aren't special.

Hi dramamam611: The pics are great. There are some pics that have been published before, but overall it is a beautifully illustrated and extensively researched book. No true fan of WSS should be without it. Indispensable.

Book has a December release date. We’re in August.

Brody, if you took the time to actually READ my post you would have known that the book that dramamama is referring to and whose pics I've posted from is a book that was released in June of this year.

R.I.F. = Reading Is Fundamental as is comprehension, and last but not least: Reading Is your Friend.

Carlos- thanks for the insight, the hard copy is on its way.

Brody, I missed your first post here.. but the thought that someone would think I was referring to the OP crossed my mind, and I reworded!

I'm sure he's gonna add a lot. Ariana DeBose says they flesh out characters more than they did in the 1961 film. We'll have the Somewhere Ballet. New choreography by Justin Peck. Spielberg might take some things from the 1961 film, like doing that version of America. We've only mostly seen still images. Not really any official footage. The trailer should give us a better idea.

The original 1961 was heavily stylized. It was intentionally meant to look like art: the colors, the abstract visuals, the obvious “sets.” Only the opening Prologue was filmed on location. The rest was on soundstages. Everything was intended to have that artificial “look.” Spielberg strayed away from this visual concept and shot his version using actual locations. Impossible to compare the “look” of both films.

Globefan said: "Amazon still has it listed for December"

Amazon isn’t a reliable source on release dates. Many times they’ve updated release date info on the day and item was to be released but was changed. The author himself verified the December 2020 release date was cancelled. The book was intended to coincide with the film’s release and its apparent they intend on keeping this timeline. In other words, book is slated for December 2021.
