What Actor Was So Good They Made You Cry? — Page 3

Not quite an answer to the question, but Rent 10, during Goodbye Love, when Collins says to "I can't believe he's gone; I can't believe you're going," he hit Adam on "you're going" and started to cry. Adam was actually moving to LA the next morning, and you could tell that Jesse was heartbroken; I had been teary the whole time, but he lost it at that moment, and so did I. He's always been heartbreaking as Collins, but when you add a meta aspect, that just grows.
A work of art is an invitation to love.

"*Once Before I Go, with Hugh Jackman in THE BOY FROM OZ "
Ah, yes, thank's for the reminder, Jo... I also teared up at "I Still Call Australia Home," -- I'm not an Aussie, but the song hits close to home for me.
"*Only in the recording, but - Richard Burton singing the reprise of the title song in CAMELOT ( when he tells the little boy to keep the ideals of Camelot alive) "
I saw Burton in the revival which was done at the New York State Theatre, and I remember tearing up during this same scene.

I forgot about that one and it definitely belongs on the list. The only really good thing about that revival. Franz also turned in an astounding performance in Long Day's Journey Into Night at Syracuse Stafe opposite a lackluster and ill-prepared Sam Waterston.

kec, do you perhaps mean Richard Harris in Camelot?
I don't know that Richard Burton ever sang and Harris was known for Camelot.

"Donna Murphy in her final scene in Passion. Absolutely heartbreaking when she finally realizes that she has truly won Giorgio's heart and love."
I can't believe it took 3 pages for someone to mention Donna Murphy in "Passion"!
Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin - "Sunday in the Park with George"
Victoria Clark - "The Light in the Piazza"

Ah, youth. Too bad it's wasted on the young and too bad they don't try to learn anything about the theatre before they make remarks like that
You've got to be taught, carefully taught :)

Hahaha Tom.
Some people are no fun.
NDP, Richard Harris was King Arthur in the movie. Richard Burton was King Arthur on Broadway. You'll notice most of his songs are Rex Harrison-esque, in that he can get away with speak-singing.
And Tom, I'm what people here would consider young, so there :-P One shouldn't generalize.

WRQ has become a database of theatre info.
At least I asked a question rather than making a pronouncement, Tom.

The entire cast of the special concert production of "The Secret Garden", especially Laura Benanti. Every time she opened her mouth, I had a nervous breakdown.
Suzanne: I never use catalogs. I'd rather go in the store and see all the salespeople groveling and sucking up to you.
Julia: Pardon me, I never knew they were so solicitous at the K-Mart.

He did indeed, nom -- with Julie Andrews and Robert Goulet.
I, of course, am far too young to have seen that production.
But my parents did.

Now did Burton REALLY sing or did he do a Rex Harrison?
Burton on stage was something I could never have caught.

Oh, and I am totally not gonna lie...that belty chick in [title of show] made me lose my sh*t when she sang that song about going back to childhood.

Although I'm a youngster and obviously didn't have the honor of seeing the original performance, I saw a video of Donna McKechnie doing "Music and the Mirror" and I bawled... So beautiful...
Also Maureen McGovern in Little Women...And... I haven't seen enough shows on the Great White Way to ist anymore... Curse Maine.

He also sang with Christine Ebersole and Richard Muenz in 1980

I, too, am too young to have seen the original production, which was in 1960. I saw the 1980 production.

Those Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) actors can do anything.
It even makes me wonder if Ralph Fiennes can sing...anyone know?

For the record, Thornton Wilder wrote Our Town.
As for me...
Brent Carver in Kiss of the Spider Woman, Parade, Fiddler on the Roof, and Elizabeth Rex. Damn, he's intense!
Raul in The Normal Heart.
Daphne Rubin-Vega and Adam Pascal in Rent.
And I'm embarrassed to admit this, largely because I don't remember the name of the actor, but towards the middle of Miss Saigon's run, whoever played Chris made me sob when he just started screaming as the music reached its crescendo at the finale. Not one of my favourite musicals, but he really made the moment powerful.
