have never been to the City but will be shortly. I'm bringing a group of middle aged women (heaven help me) to the City for a theatre outing in a few weeks. We are seeing Billy, AF, and Mama Mia.

Anyway - I want them to be able to experience the City visually before they arrive, what are the best "Landscape" NYC movies?

Thanks -

I'm sorry, what's AF?

And, Enchanted was actually the first thing that came to mine, Little Manhattan, too. I'm sure there are better ones out there, though...

Serendipity? Totally sappy, but I can't help it, it's one of my favorites!

I agree with Serendipity. They do a lot of running around so you get to see a lot of the city. Watch some of the later seasons of Sex and the City.

Some of those suggestions were a little dated...I would look for more recent movies. I know the city hasn't changes that much, but it has changed.

Most of Michael Lucas' films feature NYC prominently. I recommend La Dole Vita and Gigolo.

I definitely agree with When Harry Met Sally. Rob Reiner and Nora Ephron have said several times that New York City is supposed to be another character in the movie.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

I would have to second Muppets Take Manhattan. It is by far my favorite Muppet movie.

I want to know what AF is also!

I would suggest that since you will be in Times Square to go to the theatre, have them watch the live NYC Earth Cams.

Even though the city has changed, I would recommend Fame (the original). Not only does it show what NYC once was, but it shows what people go through to be on Broadway. But don't show it if your ladies are conservative because it does have strong language.

One of my favorite characters in the movies is Shirley Mulholland.

The first movie that came to mind for me was Little Manhattan as well, if only for Central Park. My daughter was obsessed with that movie a few years ago.

Yes, the film does show the NYC of the late 1970's but you obviously have never seen the film with that last comment.

Seriously.

Yes I was wondering what AF meant, thanks for putting me straight.

I was getting worried I thought you were going to say take a load of middle aged woman to Rock of Ages, then I would advise to up there blood pressure tablets.

I can't think of any great ones lately, Sex and the City maybe, but going back a few decades, Midnight Cowboy, Taxi Driver, a lot of the Woody Allen movies, oh yeah, and Ghostbusters.
Don't want to scare them away. New York has come a long way since the days of Midnight Cowboy.
