I think that Liza would be an interesting choice as the DROWSY CHAPERONE. I know that it's a supporting role, but she is getting older and might really enjoy being in this wonderful show. The song, "As We Stumble Along", is right up her alley. What do you think? Just a thought!

I believe there's been several threads on the debate of casting for this role, most of them specifically discussing Minelli as a possibility.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I love me some Liza, but insurers would balk. Liza has a hard time following through on commitments. Eight shows a week ain't her bag, baby. I've had tickets for her several times (different tours, different cities, different years) and all were cancelled. Liza is a gamble, not in terms of talent, but definitely follow through.

I thought her health (ie dependability) were much improved lately. I think she'd be terrific, and (obviously) a sensational draw.

I think she'd be a hoot. It'd be a great part for her.

She could do it, but I almost feel as if she would be spoofing herself. Although, she may be up for that.

Rue would be a good DRUNK Drowsy, but she'd have to sing-talk like she did in WICKED.

Yeah, I can't see Liza doing 8 shows a week. Nice thought though.

The DROWSY CHAPERONE doesn't pull in enough gross to cover what it would cost to insure Liza Minnelli in the production. The same reason is what kept her mom from playing MAME. Sad but true.

You know honestly....

I'd much rather see her as Joanne in the Company Revival. Now that would attract an audience. Maybe they could use real booze in the glasses. I could just see her now trying to multi task the triangle and dragging those bells across the stage.

I was just watching Arrested Development earlier today, and I basically saw Liza as the Chaperone. And she was good.

I was watching Arrested Development too! - right after reading this thread, as a matter of fact.

I want to see Rachel York as the Chaperone.
