What current shows do you think will pass 1000 performances?

So, what shows will pass 1000?
I think Book of Mormon is a lock but other than that I'm not sure. I hope Memphis can but I'm not sure if it's going well enough at the box office to run until mid-2012.

Any thoughts?

It's about 2 1/2 years running time, yes?

Memphis will be close, Book of Mormon will most likely make it.

Spiderman might make it -- in previews alone! What current shows do you think will pass 1000 performances?
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Rock of Ages
Memphis
War Horse
Book of Mormon

Based on grosses, Priscilla and Spider-Man are possible and Addams Family if Brooke Shields can provide the necessary box office boost.

Memphis - has a strong advance; group sales alternative to the "racy" feel good shows of Priscilla/ROA
Rock of Ages - low running costs and delighted audiences + big movie in 2012
Priscilla - if it moves to a smaller theater and adds future star casting
Book of Mormon - amazing word of mouth and should win many Tony awards to further increase the interest level + it's really good

MEMPHIS is getting good numbers, which also should be up this summer. They've passed 650 as of early May... I bet they reach 1000 easily.

I think Spider-man will run for a few years although it depends on how much it costs to run. I can see it being a hit with tourists. Mormon will hit it easy. War Horse is one to look out for although the movie could take some steam out of it. Being Australian, I hope that Priscilla can but it seems unlikely to me. Rock of Ages doesn't have to far to go so that'll make it and Memphis is kind of 50/50 at the moment.

So it's:
The Book of Mormon
Spider-Man
Rock of Ages
Memphis

Maybe:
Priscilla
War Horse
Sister Act

A preview is a performance because they perform but after opening there is a name for it I can't remember.

A show's performances is always tracked by number of previews and then number of performances upon opening. Academically speaking, previews are never figured into a Broadway show's number of performances. When you see a long-running show celebrate their 1000th performance, it does not include previews. If you check the list of long-running shows on Playbill.com, they do no include previews. And ibdb.com breaks out the number of previews and number of performances.

Yea but if you perform its a performance. On Wikipedia (I know bad example) they count all times they perform. The reason a show uses only after opening night because it celebrates the show with all changes made. But it really depends on your definition. I count previews, you clearly don't. That would just be my reasoning. One thing I have learned on this site is its almost impossible to change an opinion so I wont try. :P

Umm... no they don't. For example, from the Jersey Boys wiki page:
"The Broadway production has had 38 previews and 2241 performances as of April 10, 2011."

The 38 previews are not counted in the 2241 performances. They are separate.

"One thing I have learned on this site is its almost impossible to change an opinion so I wont try."

Well that's a good thing because you're wrong.

Look at Wicked they have played 3151 performances including previews. Actually I'm not wrong, there are 2 possible definitions. I use the less widely used.
By the way, I was responding to Mister Matt because he can respond without being rude.

Steel Pier Fan - I'm still not sure you understand. Bjh is not debating opinions. You can feel that a preview counts as towards a performance count but by no one's measure is that the case. You could also argue that the sky is orange but you'd just be wrong.

So can I. I just choose to tell the truth. Also, where does it say that Wicked has played 3151 shows including previews?

I think Sister Act may have enough name recognition to make it to 1000 performances. I sincerely hope War Horse makes it, because it would be nice to have a long-running play once in a while.

BoM will most definitely make it.
I like your imperturbable perspicacity.
