I'm a photojournalist...and though I actually do have a Pulitzer Prize, it didn't impress my kids or give me theater discounts, and my newspaper is currently struggling to survive! I grew up not far from NYC, my parents started bringing me to shows when I was eight years old, and it took.
And--this is pretty pathetic--I probably only have my real name up here because when I signed up, I didn't realize I could have chosen a pseudonym...and then it was too late to change it!
Thanks, guys...it's always funny, too, around Pulitzer time when a lot of folks get very upset if a play they don't like as much wins; I always take it with a grain of salt because even though it IS cool to win, I was a finalist twice and those times my work was much stronger. And it didn't change my life/career much at all, although for a playwright, it might be quite a different story.
I used to work as a set designer, then figured out there was no money in it (d'uh!) and moved over to trade show and exhibit design, which pays far better and more regularly. And I'm creeping more and more into book illustration, which has been a blast.
I also keep my webcomic going and have been submitting a short animation around to some of the film festivals. I have no illusions about any of it going anywhere, but it's an amusing hobby.
