I mean you could probably say this for anyone who were replacements in featured roles in their younger years. Marin Mazzie for example was a replacement Rapunzel I believe during the original run of INTO THE WOODS.
Or anyone who did a regional run of something. For example Beth Leavel once played the Witch in a Pittsburgh production of INTO THE WOODS.

Renee Elise Goldsberry played Nettie in the original production of The Color Purple.
Judy Kuhn played Amalia Balash in the 1993 revival of She Loves Me.

This first one I did kind of forget until recently but the second one I think about pretty frequently...especially how they recorded it without her. One of the true lost recordings in my opinion.

Since she is so well known, I feel like most probably don't know that Idina Menzel was a replacement Amneris in Aida in 2001.

One I was shocked to discover, Christine Ebersole as Ado Annie in the 1980 revival of OKLAHOMA, as well as Guenevire in the '80s CAMELOT.

Pop star Britney Spears and Oscar winner Natalie Portman were understudies for Laura Bell Bundy (as Tina) in the original Off-Broadway production of RUTHLESS: The Musical.
Louise Lasser was Barbra Streisand's understudy in the original 1962 Broadway production of I CAN GET IT FOR YOU WHOLESALE.

I don't know about the tour (thought I trust your memory), but Channing replaced Russell as "Ruth" on Broadway.

Carol Channing went brunette and replaced Rosalind Russell in the original "Wonderful Town"
Beatrice Lille replaced Rosalind Russell toward the end of "Auntie Mame" before taking the play to London.
