What's Next for the Cort?

I think the Cort needs a renovation more than the Lyceum does. Just my opinion.

What's Next for the Cort?

I imagine the Shubert Organization would carve out a lower lounge as they did with the Belasco and Longacre renovations. Also, the interior itself was painted a sort of oatmeal-colored taupe in the 1960s or 70s, but apparently the original color scheme was quite elaborate: lots of pinks, blues, peach, etc.  Also of note, the Cort has that unique lattice-pattern proscenium, which was lit from behind with stained glass, while the audience arrived. (The mechanical elements no longer work, but if you take a close look at the proscenium, some of the glass still remains in place).  If the Shubert Organization goes full throttle to bring the house back to its original state, it may end up rivaling the Belasco for prettiest Broadway playhouse.

Although that boxy marquee with 'Cort' in cursive script is a landmark in its own way, it really does a disservice to the facade, at least when you look at the elegant original design.

Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.

If you need to use an easy access restroom at the Cort, they send you to the Chipotle across 48th St.  The staffs at the Cort and Chipotle are very nice about it, but it's weird.

That seems very odd and time consuming. And man, that is a gorgeous facade. I really hope they get rid of these big clunky marquees. We need to take pride in our beautiful theaters.

Lyceum is not in bad shape, I;ve been to both theaters in the last two weeks and the Cort's sets are all ripped up too nd in nasty shape. Sort needs help badly.

The Lyceum is def stuffy and congested, but it's my favorite theater on Broadway. Love the simple, elegant marquee. The balcony is rough though. It feels like it's uneven, and there's one bathroom right off the seating. You can see the inches of dust on top of the boxes. It could def. use some sprucing up. Not sure if there's any reason to give it a major renovation. But it is a bit dark and gloomy.

At the Golden they walk you next door to the Jacobs or, if the Jacobs is closed, to the hotel across the street.

"

My parents actually just went to the bathroom at the Golden when we saw eclipsed after I posted my earlier message.  Apparently the only downstairs restroom is a men's room and the only ladies room is ALL the way upstairs. So shortly before curtain they made the downstairs bathroom coed so the women just walk by the men at the urinals and go to the stalls. Apparently there were quite a few comments about "enjoying the show..."  But everyone was really chill about it and they said it was totally no big deal. AND I learned the gents at the Richard Rodgers have these fancy hand dryers right above the sink while we in the ladies' room are putting our hands back and forth between the hot and cold faucets since one is scalding and the other freezing!  I just assumed the men's room had the same crappy faucets but evidently not.

Anyway sorry this is off topic. The bathroom reviewer who posts his reviews on here needs a lady on staff since the restrooms are evidently so different!  :)

No idea. I just know my mom came to her seat and they said the only ladies' room was all the way upstairs but the men's room would be going coed in 5 minutes if they didn't want to go all the way upstairs. (She didn't go up but opted to use the men's room. Apparently the lady working made it sound like it was a long way up.) I've only ever sat in the orchestra so I don't know what's upstairs. And I went to the bathroom at the restaurant before the show so I just went to my seat and didn't have to deal with it. Which I always try to do. :)

There is a men's room in the Balcony which I go up to when I'm there usually because it's a lot less of a hassle and less crowded.

M. Butterfly is closing. What's next? Is it time for its renovation now?

I pray to God that renovations are next. The Cort is an absolute dump.

My guess would be The Minutes ends up at the Cort.

Would Boys in the Band switch to let Meteor Shower potentially extend with a new star?

No show would ever voluntarily move from the Booth (one of the most prime locations) to the Cort (one of the least desirable locations).

I really hope it's The Minutes but I feel like it won't do well there at all, especially if they bring in the cast from Chicago. (Not knocking them but there aren't any names.)

Love the rendering, and glad we're getting the original marquee back!!

And I know people say the Court isn't desirable, but look at Fences, A View From the Bridge, etc. If people want to see your show they will see it. And plus it's right next to Radio City Music Hall/Rockfeller Plaza, so it's not like it's in the middle of nowhere.

UGH. This theatre is seriously such a dump. They NEED to renovate it before putting another show in.

If The Prom takes the Cort, it may as well not even open.

Bland title. Out of the way theater. No big stars. Good luck!

Now that Network has moved to the Belasco, will it finally be renovated?
