Hands down for me "the audition" in 42nd street OR "42nd street/finale ultimo" in 42nd street. I luv when they're all dancing on the glowing stair case, and the finale ultimo is tap heaven.
"One" from A Chorus Line "Steam Heat" from The Pajama Game "Be A Santa" from Subways are for Sleeping...of course I never saw this one...but the thought of a line of dancing Santas seems irresistable! "Hot Honey Rag" from Chicago "If You Could See Her" and "Willkomen" from Cabaret
"You pile up enough tomorrows, and you'll find you are left with nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays. I don't know about you, but I'd like to make today worth remembering." --Harold Hill from The Music Man
"People have their opinions and that doesn't mean that their opinions are wrong or right. I just take it with a grain of salt because opinions are like as*holes, everyone has one".

"No two shows are alike in the making. Each show is a living
piece of your life in a small unreal world with its own character
and integrity; its own new set of memorable experiences and
incredible happenings. You begin to love and adapt to its strangeness.
Dreams harden into substance. Values come into focus. You wish
it would never end. The dream world vanishes like mist before a
rising sun; part of you vanishes with it. And back you land in the
real world with a thud- fogged, uneasy, jittery, difficult to get
along with. There is only one cure. A new show. A new, small
unreal world; new visions, experiences, incredible happenings.
Again you love it, adapt to it, wish it would never end.
But end it does. Another part of you vanishes.
That's show business."-Anonymous
stage_door76, I couldn't have said it better myself. I was too young to see the original, so I've only been able to enjoy it through amateur productions, taped performances, and the horrible movie. As soon as I saw this thread title, I immediately thought of A Chrous Line, and I was surprised that so few people were mentioning it. (Dancing Through Life is hardly a dance number and definitely not comparable to those mentioned here!)
ACL: One, Music and the Mirror, I Hope I Get It (I just like watching dance auditions) West Side Story: America, Dance at the Gym, Prologue
Like a firework unexploded
Wanting life but never
knowing how
I guess more people here are familiar with the film version of the show than the complete stage version, so I will put in my vote for the Somewhere Ballet from West Side Story.
