What should I see this summer?

In a twist of events, I will be getting to New York this summer and have enough time to see 6 shows. I'm hardly in NY and don't see anywhere near the amount of shows as I would like, but I'm making this a special event with with my Mom.
So far we have picked out:
1. King and I ( My Mom loves the show and I grew up with the horrible cartoon version)
2. Fun Home
3. Finding Neverland
4. On The Town.
Not sure about the other 2, any suggestions? Perhaps a Play. I've only over seen musicals when I'm in the city, so if there is a good enough play, I'd be down.
I don't really have any interest in seeing American in Paris, Gigi or The Visit (Sorry Ljay). Maybe Hamilton? I'm considering seeing Beautiful with Chilina.

As soon as you're done reading this message, get over to Telecharge and buy your ticket(s) to Something Rotten. It will soon be next to impossible to get seats, once the reviews and the Tony nominations come out. The show is so amazing (I saw it last night and just bought another ticket) that the audience jumped to a standing ovation in the middle of the first act.

If Hamilton has started performances by the time you go, I would choose that.
Curious Incident is fantastic, and while it is a play, I found it to be far superior to several of the musicals playing this season.
The he above post is clearly a shill, I found Something Rotten be mediocre at best.

Agree with Hamilton and Curious Incident. Jeremy Jordan is at 54 Below from June 22 - July 3 if that's in your timeframe

Oh yea, I've heard really good things about Something Rotten. I might just add that to the list, thanks.

I'll do my research on curious Incident ( have no idea what it's about), thanks.

Unfortunately it doesn't, but I got to see him live in Finding Neverland. Thanks anyway.

I'll second Curious Incident and Hamilton.

I hate to break the news to you Gingerbread but your opinion is not the be all & end all re Something Rotten. If you did not like it, that is your opinion. To call someone a shill because they do not agree with you and like something you do not is really a bit much.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it and were amongst an audience of like minded individuals. I guess that would make them all shills in your eyes if they publicly stated they did. Have you ever heard the term "word of mouth" ? This is one way to build an audience. Liking something and telling others you did does not make you a shill. Everyone has their own opinion and should (dare I say it) make up their own mind. I was never a fan of the herd mentality. Everyone on this board says you must see this or that. We look at a show. If it seems of interest to us based on many factors we see it.If not, we do not. We believed the herd menatlity re Moromon and said never again after that experience.
By your definition of shill your post here would make you a shill for Curious & Hamilton.

"You can't take it with you" is still playing, correct? I was in that show in HS and remember seeing the revival getting raves on here. Could be a fun one to watch.

Something Rotten does sound like my kind of humor. I loved Spamalot and Urinetown. It Would be cool to see Christian Borle live also. My Mom is a big Monty python fan so she would probably like it.

Roxy, do me a favor and point out where I said that my opinion was the only one that mattered. The OP asked for opinions and I gave one.
If you read pacificnorthwest's post, it is not hard to figure out that he is in some way connected to the production.
Context clues, honey.

I'm not sure On The Town will still be playing when you get here. It's been playing to very low capacity for weeks and if they don't score big at the Tony noms I'm afraid this will be the next one closing.
I can highly recommend On The 20th Century, either as a substitute for On The Town or as one of your open slots. It's just an all around fantastic show, it's hilarious, beautiful for the show, great music you won't get out of your head and pretty much one of the best nights you can have on Broadway. It got rave reviews all around and it got them for a reason. It's also a limited run (currently scheduled through July 5 but I think likely to extend for a few weeks), so that will be your only chance to see it, too.
I've only heard wonderful things about Curious Incident, and it's high on my must-see list as well.
I also had a wonderful time at It Shoulda Been You, actually. The show is very unexpected, very funny and much better than you would might think from the description.
I don't know how often you come to New York, but Hamilton is likely to run for quite a while, and Something Rotten might as well if it's as good as everybody says (I have yet to see it, too many shows opening right now to keep up).

I also have that fear about On The Town. I'm still a bit on the fence about On The Twentieth century. I would love to see Kristin but I just can't get into the music all that much.

I've heard so many different things about the show. I'm really not sure. But I'm glad you liked it. After this summer, I probably won't be able to get to NY for another year. So I really want to hit all the big shows everyone talks about.

Should is not a big show. It will not win any awards but it is an entertaining piece of fluff. Many here had it D.O.A. before the scenery was event loaded in (a BWW standby).Very enjoyable.
Honeymoon was in the same category but rotten to non existent marketing and a ridiculously unnecessary 2 month preview period during the Holiday season killed it.

You guys DO know this troll has no desire to know what you think he should see, right? And even if he did, he's *maybe* 15 trolling everyone like he's done for over 2 years now with different screen names. Seriously, just put this Bilbo on ignore.

I'm genuinely confused. How is asking for opinions on which shows to see trolling?

Definately Hamilton and Curious Incident! Maybe Hedwig and Twentieth Century as backups?

Alright now I'm really curious about Curious Incident. Just watched a trailer of it on youtube and it looks very cool. I will heavily consider it. Thanks Defyingravity11, but I already saw Hedwig and strangely didn't like it as much as I wanted to. On The Twentieth Century is looking more and more likely for us. I think my Mom would eat it up.

Summer when?
My suggestions:
Hamilton starts previews July 13
On the 20th Century as of now is only till July 5 but heard it may extend till end of the month w/ a possibility to the end of summer.
Something Rotten

Thanks, Gingerbread, for affirming that, for the most part, there is no place on this board for anything but theater snobs. I am not a "shill." Or, if I am, so was just about everyone in the audience with me on Friday night (including Harvey Fierstein). I have never pretended to know a lot about theater, or certainly not to understand it at the level of many people on this board. I'm just someone who has made going to shows my hobby. I love some things (like Something Rotten); I like or like things about most of the shows I see. Occasionally I dislike something altogether, but that's pretty rare. But clearly I'm unqualified for this board. I'll try to keep my mouth shut in the future. So f-ing sorry.

This has been said before, but definitely see Hamilton. And Curious Incident is another great idea!
