Posted: 7/24/05 at 9:47pmSweet Charity is the perfect show. It's upbeat and a ton of fun. I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about it lately

Posted: 7/24/05 at 10:25pmSWEET CHARITY for sure!!!
#28re: What to see?
Posted: 7/24/05 at 10:28pmTo be fair, Charity opened a lot later than La Cage did.

Posted: 7/24/05 at 11:59pmSWEETIE - Chairty has been running for MANY fewer performances than LA CAGE, so DONT even start. Yes, I do love the Chairy score...thats why I was so disapointed to hear Applegate destroy it with her weak voice (not to mention much of the other cast - dont evenme started on that sorry excuse of Act II open). And the choreography by Wayne Cilento and the directon by the sexless Walter Bobbie were horrible...if this is what a classic like Charity deserves - then so be it!

In the long run - we will see what show has played more performances. I rest my case..

swifty-You're a Wicked fan who wants to see another big flashy show, right? The big, flashy show this season is Spam but it's very hard to get into and you might not like it. I laughed alot but I still think the other 3(Tony nominated) are better.
DRS-Norbert=WOW! Yazbek's lyrics are hilarious(and a bit dirty). The cast is great, funny, and fabulous. A great choice!
Bee-It's not the size of the show but the quality of the show, and this show proves that to be right. The cast is so adorable and talented! The music is so fun and the jokes are gut-busting. If you don't like to laugh stay far away from Bee!
Piazza-As wonderful as all the shows were this season, Piazza is the crown jewel. IMHO, it's the best show on Broadway, can't be missed! Everyone from Victoria to Sarah give their best and their best is beyond anything I've ever hoped to see. Each song is like a little treasure. I hope if you choose to give Piazza a try that you'll appreciate it's beauty.

If you like some naughty comedy, try DRS.
I have yet to see Sweet Charity. From what I can tell from the cast recording and the video clips of the current revival. It has a catchy score.

I want to know what he is going to see.
I say Charity and (or) DRS. If you can't get DRS. Charity has a wonderful rush. Front row and other parts of the Orch for only 26 dollars.

I would have to say Charity......
Charity has alot to offer - i know i have seen it 4 times myself- Christina Appelgate and Denise o 'Hare give - IMO - one of the finest couple preformances this year on broadway.... Charity has the power to make you laugh and cry.... the dancing is modern and up to date, the costumes are eye catching, the score has some of the most recognizable musical theatre songs, and the set is simple but marvelously used.... what is so great about Charity is that it isn't hiding behind special effex.... every night they give a great show that is easy to enjoy

Go see Bee!!! You honestly cannot go wrong. It may not be big and splashy like its next door neighbor but it's HYSTERICAL, the music is sooo much fun, the book is one of the funniest in years and the cast is simply perfect. It is the most fun you can have on Bway right now, IMO.

Wow,the reason I didn't recommend Charity is because I did not think its the best, there is a reason it closed out of town, there is a reason it was largely ignored by the Tonies...Having said that I have the cast recording and enjoy it, however during the show I was far from engrossed and I felt like they were trying to akward me to death with the choreography...
I've seen ALL the shows I recommended, and I think it would be a shame if you chose charity and missed a more enjoyable theater experience...

^ Well we all have different opinions. And a lot of us love Charity. Out of all the shows being recommended Charity has the best score, and is the most upbeat, and bubbly.
Others are recommending Charity also. So it's all about opinion.
#40re: What to see?
Posted: 7/25/05 at 6:24pmIt is about opinion which is why it boogles the mind that you would speak in absolutes and say it has the best score, and why you would claim that those suggesting other shows do not enjoy classic/ golden age musicals...Sorry I didn't mean to be so contentious, but...meh.

It seems like either Sweet Charity, Spelling Bee, or Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Hmmmmm..... should I pick out of a hat? lol. I'm so bad at deciding things.

Piazza was wonderful. It's not the flashy show you were thinking about seeing though. The sets are pretty simple but it's still a great show! I loved it!
I haven't seen DRS but have heard only GREAT things. I plan on seeing that the next time I'm in NY.
Rent, The Producers, and The Lion King (talk about great sets, costumes, & lighting) are other great shows that I've seen.
#46re: What to see?
Posted: 7/25/05 at 11:49pmLA CAGE won the Tony Award - I rest MY case! Chairty won 0 awards...DRS has the Best lead actor on Bway today, actually it has 2 of them and a score and book that will have you laughing harder than you have in a VERY long time.
#47re: What to see?
Posted: 7/25/05 at 11:52pmGo with SCOUNDRELS, it's very upbeat with flashy sets (they spin alot) and it sounds like what you're looking for. It's the only show I wanted to see twice this season, and I saw a chunk. It's fun and funny with music that didn't get out of my head till--it's still in my head. (Which is why I'm seeing it again next weekend.)

Lol La Cage. I believe this convo ended last night.
Anyway Tony or not - Charity is doing fine. The 86 Charity won quite a few Tonys including Best Revival and awards for Bebe and Michael. It's not like the show hasn't won Tonys before!

Just kidding! I am really enjoying watching you two go at it over these two shows! I would join in, but I haven't seen La Cage....
in this corner....a kittenish young lady in a lovely red dress, top hat and cane!
and in this corner.....a 6 foot drag queen with sequins and feathers to spare!
