What will be the first new Disney musical to open post covid

I never much cared for Beauty and the Beast...I thought it was overstuffed and paled next to the movie. The idess of Enchanted or The Princess Bride seem intriguing.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Hercules took the St. James starting summer 2021. I suppose it would run for about as long as Newsies or Frozen did, generating solid buzz in the process.

And I know it's not certain as the sun rising in the east, but I see the Beauty and the Beast revival opening at the New Amsterdam fall 2022. Of course, Aladdin had been rather steady in ticket sales for about 6 years before the pandemic hit, but we'll never know what happens next until live theatre hopefully comes back next year. A big show like Beauty deserves a grand home, and I think the Lunt-Fontanne felt a little too intimate as it hosted most of its 13-year original Broadway run. Disney now owns the Amsterdam- it should be the obvious choice if Aladdin shows signs of mortality.

I hope Schumacher pulls a mouse out of his hat and creates this future for Disney on Broadway. Behold the new trifecta in Times Square before you know it: Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Hercules.

This. I am convinced that the plan has ALWAYS been for Frozen to close after this summer to make room for their next show at the St. James in spring of summer of 2021. It was not the pandemic that closed Frozen, it just closed it earlier then originally planned and if not for the pandemic, the show still would have posted a closing notice for September. Once the covid-19 suspension got extended past whatever was the date they already planned to close, they announced it would not return.

Based on their list of things in the works, my money is on as well Hercules. It seems to be the one most far along in development and the Central Park show gave them a test run for what works and what needed work.

To the OP, the Beauty and the Beast revival was announced a while ago, but I'd also bet dollars to donuts that it'll be the first production Disney puts up too. It's just too obvious of an option to NOT do so. As mentioned on other threads, I had gotten reliable insider info looonngg ago that Frozen was going to close to make way for this revival anyway. It's just pretty clear Frozen was shuttered early for obvious reasons.

It's also pretty clear Hercules isn't Broadway bound, it's looks like it's gonna go the way of Hunchback which is damn shame. Hercules can, and should, be a big splashy Disney musical on Broadway, not the cheap looking thing from last year. I didn't see it, I entered every single lotto, but that was the biggest report I heard from most I know who did see it.

I don't know...I'm not saying Tangled shouldn't happen, but I just can't see it happening for some reason. And Menken has said more than once that Pocahontas ain't happening, he doesn't know how it would translate. I've come to the conclusion that Pocahontas is more movie with great songs than an actual through line musical.
