Looks like Radio City Music Hall is going to be occupied by something else.
Do you guys think next year's Tony Awards should go back to the Beacon Theatre or someplace new? I was thinking the theatre at Madison Square Garden...

I loved when they were at the Beacon. It felt like the older years when they were held in a Broadway house.

Never thought of the Kings. An inspired choice but a logistical nightmare. If it worked, they could go into the old Brooklyn Paramount now getting the Kings treatment.

I think many people are agreement with you that Radio City is better, but it seems that they cannot get Radio City this year as the Rockettes have it booked.

If they had not torn down the Roxy, they could have had a theater just as big and much more ornate right down the block.

It said that the rocket yes are performing till August. Will it also interfere with where America's got talent will be filmed?

Interestingly enough, the Playbill article about this states explicitly that the Tony Awards will be held at Radio City Music Hall, with the Spectacular beginning the following week. So, who knows!!

The article also said that next year's ceremony would be taking place on June 7th, which wouldn't make any sense because that would be on a Tuesday. June 5th would be the more likely date.

They should hold the Tonys at the Rodgers, Hamilton is going to clean up this year. Save them the trouble of carrying all the awards home. Lol, jk

The Tony's will probably move to the Beacon this year, although I do see MSG and the American Theater Wing work something out to allow the Tony's to move back to Radio City. If I had to bet, this is a ploy to force the American Theater Wing to move the Tony's up to the first weekend of June. This is in hopes of shortening the theater award season, as they keep pushing the eligibility cut off date earlier April 23rd this year compared to May 7th in 2008. For those who may argue the Tony Awards were held later in 2008, June 15th compared to June 7th this year. The last time the Tony's were held on June 7th was 2009 when the eligibility cut off was May 5th.
Looking at the turn around for the Christmas Spectacular, which is 2 weeks (I assume 1 week of move in and 1 week of tech), the turn around for the New York Spectacular is probably a little longer as it is newer, but I would expect the goal for future years is probably to be 2 weeks as well.
If MSG and the American Theater Wing do want the Tony's to continue at Radio City, I could see the Tonys moving the first Sunday of June, and the New York Spectacular starting 2 weeks later. Adding to that I would expect the Tony's, which do not normally have as elaborate sets as most awards shows, (its essentially just a facade for the proscenium, deck/catwalk around the pit section of the orchestra, and a few set pieces for an opening and or closing number in addition to any set pieces performing shows bring with them.) and rarely take up the entire stage, to adapt some of the New York Spectacular's set into their scenic design. Also I would expect them to more heavily on projections, which have been more and more common anyway post the use of the Beacon Theater, as it is cheaper and takes up less space.
Do I see this happening, I don't know. But I don't see MSG permanently evicting the Tony's, as the New York Spectacular unlike Zharkana, would do, because of the value it adds to both brand. Yes the American Theater Wing probably needs the Radio City, more than MSG needs the Tony's but I don't see Harvey Weinstein allowing that to happen this especially if he wants to save face in the industry. Do I see the Tony's moving to The Beacon this year? Probably, but next year I think something will likely be arranged that pushes the Tony's up a week and the Spectacular back a week.

I guess the change in location could also be why we haven't heard a Tony ceremony date announcement yet. It was announced first week of September last year.

That's unlikely as long as NPH remains on NBC and the Tony Awards are broadcast on CBS.
