I agree with The Color Purple, and I'm going to hope against hope that Bright Star impresses.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I can't imagine anything School of Rock could do to make people interested in buying tickets. Expect maybe show a clip from the movie and say "If you want to see a non-funny, not as good version of this scene with some Mozart and song from Chess thrown in, come see our terrible terrible show. But not if you want to enjoy yourself.

I think the Color Purple will probably get the biggest boost but I also think Bright Star and Fiddler on the Roof will also get a lift.

The only review of a show that matters is your own.

Ha! :)

I think if they do "Stick it to the Man" it could get a nice boost from families since there's not much for teens. Too bad they've already seen the best part.

Sheesh. I saw it and had a lot of fun

We are doing "You're in the Band." Of course we want to sell more tickets, but we aren't really in danger of going anyplace anytime soon."

Omg, I was hoping they'd do that number. It's pure joy.

I liked SOR but Stick It is definitely the best song IMO.

I think it's going to get a nice boost for those who see the Tonys and are looking for something that's enjoyable for everyone. It's not life changing but it is fun and despite the flaws, they have a way of making you leave smiling.

I'd expect The Color Purple and The Humans to do very well, as they'll likely get the only non-Hamilton major awards of the night. I could also see Shuffle Along seeing some nice sales- it's already doing well, but I think a fabulous tap number could sell the show even more than Audra, who is the obvious draw right now.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I think it's likely to get some tickets sold as best play winner but I think Long Day's is going to pick up more interest if Lange and (maybe) Shannon win. I'm guessing if they are only seeing one winning play, the average person may choose the one with the movie stars.

"Every night I hear people raving about how much they are enjoying School of Rock. "

I have heard more people say they left at intermission of School of Rock than any show in recent history. Especially for a show that wasn't a big flop. People go cause it's a great movie....

But that isn't enough. Don't write a bad show based on a great movie and expect that to be enough. 9 to 5 was terrible and School of Rock is so mediocre.

Script not as funny as the film, performances WAY below the level of the film. Save your money, rent the movie..make producers and writers do better work. Don't support least common denominator work.

Long Day is already sold out.

I think Bright Star might get a slight bump only because I'd imagine Steve Martin will introduce it. As they've done a terrible job of advertising it as Steve Martin's musical, that could help.

And School for Rock is for sure bland. I think Webber wrote some great songs, but I think the casting is wrong (Boggess is all wrong, they need a true pop/rock singer in the role, and the song is beautiful, just not in her voice). It's also funny to mention that Nick, Jr. has a School of Rock TV show where the lead is a blonde surfer type guy. Kind of random.

I thought Roundabout holds a few seats back until closer to the show? Am I mistaken?

I'm not talking about the opinion of the show's "worthiness", I'm talking about what the average viewer is going to be drawn into buying tickets for. This telecast will likely have new viewers due to Hamilton who are not theater lovers. They aren't going to have any idea about Sierra or whatever else. They are going to see 3 minutes and I'm thinking a lot of people might be impressed with those 3 minutes. Like PT said, it's a fun show, kids get into it and it's not tortuous for parents. Granted, it's not the first choice for couples.

Sure. I don't think that is particularly the most interesting song/moment in the show, but yeah, I think it well sell tickets. Obviously, it's doing well. There's some sort of audience for the show, which I don't quite get. How something like Legally Blonde could still be a flop, and yet SOR could possibly be a hit? Huh?!

SOR left me with a huge headache, I thought it was boring and too loud! We left even before intermission. I may have the minority opinion but that's my experience. Anyways, I'm sure the show will get a boost from its Tony appearance. It does seem it has found an audience with families

The Color Purple and The Humans should increase their capacity/grosses after the TONY awards. Waitress is already doing very well currently but I think they will see a bump in advanced sales. The Hamilton scalpers will likely see the biggest boost.
