Who Feels Guilty....

That they AREN'T able to be in NY today to see any of the shows that are closing?

I know I do; even though I was there Christmas Week and will be there in two more weeks.

Still....wish I were there. But I have to admit: nothing closing that I didn't get a chance to see...well, that I wanted to see anyway!

re: Who Feels Guilty....

I am. Which is ironic because in the past two weeks I've seen more shows than I ever have in a two week period. I wanted to see Boeing Boeing and Hairspray one last time but I can't.

Then why do you feel guilty?

I don't. I don't feel an obligation to go.

re: Who Feels Guilty....

I wish I could have seen Spring Awakening, but I did get to see Gypsy, which makes up for that. And I'll probably end up seeing the SA tour at the Kennedy Center anyway (hopefully).

What makes me feel even worse is that I live literally 45 minutes from Broadway, and I'm not going to see any.

re: Who Feels Guilty....

I don't feel guilty, but I would have loved to have been to the closing performance of Hairspray. But seeing as I live all the way in Chicago, and I didn't have enough money to pay for tickets to the show, plane tickets, and for a hotel it just wasn't a possibility.

On a happier note I did just put in my Hairspray DVD to commemorate the show's closing.

re: Who Feels Guilty....

Guilty is probably too strong of word. But I do wish I could have been there. As part of the day, supporting the theater community. And while I realize I do more than my fair share for as often as I DO go to the theater, still seems like the place to be today!

re: Who Feels Guilty....

I don't feel guilty, just a little sad that I was unable to see Hairspray one more time. Oh well, that was actually the only show closing this week that I care about. And I'm glad to have seen Gypsy once, and I will be at Spamalot next week.

Yeah, guilty may be the wrong word. Some of us just can't get there! I would love to be there but can't.

re: Who Feels Guilty....

Not Guilty! (I live too far away). Would have loved to be able to see Hairspray's last show, but at least I got to see it last year.

I think it's too late in the day to feel guilty anyway - the shows closing in January are doing so because they haven't sold well enough for the past few weeks/months, unfortunately. Today is a very sad day for many in the Broadway community and I hope that the shows coming in / recently opened do well enough to sustain a decent run. (Esp. because I hope to visit again NYC again in late Spring)!

re: Who Feels Guilty....

Sorry guys, but apart from missing my opportunity see Patti in Gypsy, I'm not *that* fussed about all your closings. I mean, I'm not coolkid or anything. :P Hell, how much do you care that Spamalot and No Man's Land closed in the West End last night and the biggest theatre news story of 2008 - the RSC's Hamlet - is coming to an end next week? :P

re: Who Feels Guilty....

Well, I care about Spamalot closing on the West End as well as Broadway, because Spamalot is my favourite show, but yeah... if I could only see one of the shows closing in January, it'd have to be Hairspray. I've always loved Hairspray, but I've never seen it live-- I was holding out in the hopes that Michael Ball would transfer to Broadway.

re: Who Feels Guilty....

I'm just glad that I was able to get to see Spamalot and Gypsy over Christmas. Neither closing today, but they were my "priority".

For my next couple of trips to NYC I'll focus on shows that aren't closing! (OK, there are still a couple of limited engagements I'd like to see).

No guilt, no shame, no sadness, only fond memories and a hopeful eye to the future.

The guilt is overwhelming. How dare I not be able to afford a Broadway show this week. *wrist slap*

re: Who Feels Guilty....

for all of the shows you're seeing, who's paying the rent? for us folk whose lives do not revolve around theater, i think we will survive.

in this economy, guilt goes out the window when there are bills to pay.

re: Who Feels Guilty....

I feel genuinely guilty for not seeing [title of show]. I just recently discovered the recording and I'm so sad I missed it. What a loss.

oh my god. it is so smart.

What a dummy! I was just so busy during its run. No excuses, but it is the show I most wish I had made time for.
