Hank Azaria could be genius casting. He brings a lot to the table. While he's not young necessarily, he's ageless and could certainly pass for age appropriate opposite a younger leading lady. I would be shocked if they went with someone with absolutely zero Broadway credits. With Lewis' presumably limited directing skills they need someone with the confidence and chops to kill it no matter what. Granted, the whole thing could be a hideous disaster.

That Michael Andrew guy sounds like the ideal choice.
His whole Bio is aimed at playing this part.
Read it if you have a week or two.
And Jerry will need a yes man,
so that leaves a lot of actors out.
The idea actually could make a fun musical.
But it's a tightrope walk with all those Kooks in the kitchen.
Sorry, cooks.

I think so too. Imagine what great numbers the night club scenes could turn into.

There's one thing that's been niggling at me though. In his Buddy Love persona Julius gets Stella's attention by treating her poorly. Would that fly today?

Actually it sounds like the opposite to me. That Jerry is developing this property as a vehicle for Andrew. What's most likely is that Jerry got wind of this guy doing his character, met him, liked him a lot and they became friends. Given the guy's qualifications, Jerry must have thought it a natural.

Just my take on how it may have occurred and how this guy will be the lead.

I don't think Nathan Lane has the voice to sing the lounge tunes that he has to sing when he becomes "good looking".

Plus Nathan Lane is so famous in the Hollywood world already, and I think he's all too familiar with his audiences to be playing such a famous role.
