Not Hunter Foster! His work in Little Shop shows he doesn't understand character acting.

Hank Azaria. We know from Spamalot how well he does physical comedy. He can nerd down easily for the Professor and glam up for Buddy. It's just....TOO unjust tho to wish Jerry Lewis on him as a director.

Matthew Broderick (furiously dialing the phone): Please Marv I need this show, please Jer I need this show. I've got to get this show! I'm tired of changing crappy diapers and need this job.

If Jerry Lewis can see his role as a mentor, he could impart a lot of physical comedy tips to the actor.
He just needs to appreciate the actor's talent enough to step back and allow the actor to create and explore the role.
It would be good if Jerry had an assistant director to help him with the psychology of directing for the stage.
Christian Borle, but Tartaglia is an interesting choice.
Bart is almost too obvious.
Christian Borle would be terrific, but again, not a big name. Hank Azaria is the most viable option I've heard so far and I would love to see him on stage again. I met him once during intermission at The Full Monty and he was so gracious and kind.
Roscoe - Raul Esparza?!?! Really? How do you figure?

No one, how about no one?
So, we're expected to pay to see a show with no lead? Talk about boring.
I think, perhaps, we should try to think of this as far as pairings go. Whomever plays Julius/Buddy can't look too skeevy next to a co-ed. So, who should play Stella?
IRL Lewis is ten years older than Stevens but it wasn't that apparent. If I had to guess as far as the film goes they were only 5 years or so apart.
The big name on this show, will be Jerry Lewis.
They don't need a movie star in the lead.
Is there a role for Lynn Redgrave?

Julius's parents are characters in the film. I wonder if Lewis would take on that role.
This is, potentially, a star making role. An unknown could excel.

I read that Daniel Breaker was born in Manhattan, Kansas.
How auspicious.
You're not in Kansas anymore, Danny boy...
Norbert Leo Butz, Roger Bart, Christian Borle, or Chris Sieber would be amazing.
I like the idea of Norbert

Hank Azaria already does a version of the character on The Simpsons (Professor John Frink).
Lynn Redgrave is too classy to even go near the IDEA of a musical version of this, lo so many years later.
She was divine in COMPANY and GODS & MONSTERS and remains the definition of class and elegance much like Miss Lansbury.
P
I was refering to Ms. Redgrave's history with Mr. Lewis.
Could this be the role Jim Carrey and Robin Williams would have to slap-fight each other for???
I'm really seeing this going to Martin Short, who needs another Broadway show ASAP.
Doesn't this role require someone MUCH younger than the likes of Martin Short or Robin Williams? I think Hank Azaria is the very high end of the age range. But, as long as were at that high end, I'd submit Eric McCormack.
