Whoopi Goldberg. One can't always just be known as the "Center Square" or a crazy singing nun . Idina better not mouth off to Whoopi or she'll put some Whoopi-a** on her! Defying gravity, my dreadlock.

Kerry Butler and Sutton Foster for Elphaba.

I vote for Wing as Glinda! The show would sell out for years with her in it

(NOTE: Jessica Simpson does not sing well in live performance. She's always sharp, and and anything that you hear of hers that sounds decent is probably doctored beyond belief.)
I agree with the idea of a no-name.
It's always good to get some new faces on Broadway.
After all, everyone deserves a chance to fly.

my theory: either give it to someone new or a broadway person. if they try to stnt cast it'll flop. what about jenifer laura tohmson. hmmm just a though. however i think its more than likely to be laura bell... it makes sense that theyd pick her even though that may not be who some of us want.

To ~FloweryFriend~ -
I strongly disagree. Jessica Simpson DOES sing well live. In fact, I think she sounds better.
Plus, Stephen Schwartz originally wrote the role of Galinda for a belter. I think she would be perfect.

Laura Bell Bundy is great in the role. The show was just as good without Kristin, dare I say I even enjoyed it more without her! I hope she gets to take over full-time.
I don't think Kerry Butler could pull if off. But then I am not a fan. Haven't liked her in anything.

I hear that Stephen Schwartz, Telsey and company are holding auditions tomorrow in NYC and are seeing some really different people...interestin huh!!!??? they are flying in a couple from one or two of the major national tours too. i like the idea they are really searching for just the right person.

My only problem with LBB is that she doesn't have an effortless, soaring soprano, necessary for many parts of the songs. However, I'm sure with practice, she'll improve (I hope!). She does however, have a wonderful belt.

I totally agree with Garland Grrrl that Liz Calloway would be a great replacement for Kristin. Yes, she's a bit older, but I think she can pull it off. Great actress. Terrific sense of humor. And what a voice! On top of all of that, she is very close with Stephen Schwartz.....

I thought her soprano was fine. I don't really like Kristin's coloratura (or anyone's, for that matter). Those high notes give me a headache!

Someone on ATC mentioned Tracy Shayne as Galinda.... as much as I love her, I can't really see it.
Slightly OT, I'd love to see Roxane Carrasco as Elphaba

I was impressed with LBB by the end of the show, but it took awhile to get used to her. I prefer Kristin's singing to hers, especially on the opera. LBB's soprano voice almost sounded like her chest voice, as though she were trying to avoid her head voice...hard to explain. Her jokes were not as funny, but for an understudy with such big shoes to fill I thought she was good overall. For Good was AMAZING. LBB had tears in her eyes, and no, it didn't interfere with her singing. It was also clear how much she and Idina like each other during that final song. The way Idina wiped LBB's tears while she was singing, etc...
But while Idina and LBB may get along better then Idina and KC, the latter pair has this amazing chemistry that just isn't there when there's an understudy on.
So while overall I liked LBB, I wouldn't choose her to be a full-time replacement for Glinda. Shouldn't the replacement be chosen soon?

There is a big difference with a great soprano and an effortless soprano

I want Toni Collette to play Elphaba some day.
As for Kristin's replacement, it's obvious: Janet Jackson!

I'm seriously confused by this thread and by the choices. What's wrong with Bundy? Why is everyone suggesting all these overweight, overaged woman, when they already have someone young, pretty and talented enough in the role, to fill the slot? I've also heard that Bundy lands many of the jokes better. SO WHAT if she can't sing it like Chenoweth? NO ONE is going to be able to sing it like her for the simple fact that it was tailor made for her voice. Enough with the chunky old ladies. Even the ones that aren't chunky are just too darn old! C'mon, Jennifer Laura Thompson? We're looking for Elphabas sister, not mother.

I'm surprised in all of these postings nobody has mentioned Nancy Anderson. She seems to me as likely a candidate as anyone mentioned here...

Someone suggested Jessica Grove. She would be perfect, if she was a blonde. If she looks decent with a wig on, I'd give the role to her.
Laura Bell Bundy obviously is great in the role, or she wouldn't be standing by Kristin. I saw her, and I was very impressed with her soprano, and although her belt was a little weak, she could work on it, and if she took over full-time, she'd definitely improve. Remember that standbys have a pretty hard job.
Nancy Anderson is another great candidate. I definitely think that she could do the role.

I think she's under 40.
She's in "Wonderful Town" right now in a featured role--not sure what it is, cuz I'm seeing in on Wednesday--, and she starred in "Kiss Me, Kate" as Lois/Bianca in London--the version that was
filmed for PBS. She has an adorable, cutesy belt, and she could definitely pull off the acting.

Nancy Anderson looks exactly like Bernadette Peters. It's a little scary.
I went to a Rent audition recently at Telsey's office and they were holding Wicked auditions right next door. Waiting outside was a large, scary girl wearing lots of eyeshadow. Hopefully this isn't Kristin's replacement.

Nancy Anderson DOES look like a BP clone and her voice reminds me of a cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
I'm sticking with LBB or Amy Spanger. As much as I love Kerry Butler, I don't think she could pull off Glinda's snobbiness, as I stated at the other thread that had to do with this.

I think that Toni colette should be elphaba too... oh sorry, wrong post, any way, what about someone NEW!? If Idina is still in it than the audiences will still come!! Someone new, like Helen Hayes Nominee Lauren Williams, she was Philia in Forum at Signature Theater in DC and would be UNBELIEVABLE. did anyone see that show, and do they agree?
