Who do you want to win Best Musical? — Page 2

I think curtains will win, since though SA and GG are announcing tours, curtains could tour the best,
but this year it is truly up in the air

Agreed though that it's truly up in the air this year...

Will: Mary Poppins

Will: Hopefully Spring Awakening too.

That was accurate.
I want Spring Awakening to win. The (new)best show of the year IMO.

And regardless of whether you hate it or not, if it wins it will sustain Broadway as a place where new pieces are fostered.

Will: Probably Mary Poppins, unfortunatly. Unless the Tony voters "vote with their hearts" like in 2004, and give it to Spring Awakening

Want: GREY GARDENS
Will: SPRING AWAKENING
Posted: 5/17/07 at 12:04am
I think curtains will win, since though SA and GG are announcing tours, curtains could tour the best,
CURTAINS would last on tour for about a year and then be put to rest. SPRING AWAKENING can easily tour for 10+ years, much the way RENT has, which is still successfully touring today. GREY GARDENS would have the touring life (if it even tours -- the announcement today was particularly vague, more of a "we're going to tour! vote for us!" than any concrete plans) of CHITA RIVERA: THE DANCER'S LIFE. There will be little interest and it would teeter out at about a half a year.
Mary Poppins also announced a tour and out of the 4, I think that would tour best..
MARY POPPINS is impossible to tour. If Disney had plans to tour POPPINS, those plans would have been announced by now. With that set and the gimmicks that are needed to put that production on, perhaps it can have a sit down production in Chicago or something, but touring houses are just not safely equipped to handle bringing that show in for a week at a time.
That said, I want SPRING AWAKENING to win (surprised?) and I don't see any reason how any of the other contenders could possibly beat this innovative masterpiece. Some of you may disagree, but theatre critics and columnists across the board have embraced SPRING and it has the potential to run for years on Broadway. SPRING's cast recording has been at the top of the Billboard charts since its release and people all over the country are getting familiar with the music. I expect SPRING at the very least to take Best Featured Actor, Best Score, and Best Musical.

I find it interesting that although there seem to be droves of SA fans on the board, most of the people on this thread are leaning toward wanting GG.

SPRING AWAKENING a masterpiece? HAHA. K.

"The new Disney musical Mary Poppins, which plays Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre, will likely be launched on a national tour in 2008.
Playbill.com has learned that Disney Theatrical Productions is looking at all options for a fall 2008 tour. Los Angeles and Chicago have been discussed as being among those options, according to sources, but no official announcement has been made. A start date for the tour has yet to be announced."
Looks like sit down productions in Chicago and L.A. but nothing has been officially announced yet. It's all still up in the air.

Not an impossible tour at all. Visually impressive, but definitely possible.
