Is it odd that Second Stage has not cast Becky Shaw yet --- I would imagine they go into rehearsals soon. Any one have an idea?

Well, I doubt it's Matthew Morrison. ![]()
It is indeed odd that they haven't announced this yet, and they're cutting it awfully close if they don't yet know.
I was wondering about this today. Theoretically they go into rehearsals next week...very bizarre to not have announced the title role (and the role of Suzanna has yet to be announced too). I know this isn't as buzzy as a big revival like Rocky Horror, but I'm surprised no rumors have circulated. Perhaps that means they had someone pull out of the production and have been scrambling for a replacement? Hopefully they name the performer soon!

Madeline Brewer is Becky Shaw. Lauren Patten completes the cast. IMO a letdown after Marjorie Prime's brilliant company

So the lead is the only actor I had never heard of lol. In looking at her resume, I guess I have seen her before in The Handmaid's Tale but I never knew the name of that actress (and the show became too unsettlingly real for me to finish). I hope she does well with the role and I'm excited for the play. But this would seem to confirm my suspicion that someone else had to bow out of the project. (I mean, if your supporting players include one of the stars of a current mega hit show, Han Solo, a recent Tony winner, and a Tony-nominated Broadway vet...you'd assume the central character would be a bigger name, especially with the casting not be announced earlier).

The company may have been brilliant, but the play was super dull and predictable. My only hope for Becky Shaw is that it's not boring. I personally love the cast.

Having an Emmy-nominated turn on a hit TV show is a pretty big deal. She's not a household name, but a lot of people know who she is. I agree about Handmaid's Tale though...it should have ended after three, four seasons tops. It was great at first but they dragged it out way too long.

She also, in addition to playing Audrey in Little Shop here, had a reportedly very successful stint as Sally Bowles in the UK production of Cabaret a year or two back (the people I heard from said she was far better than at least one or two of the performers who did it on Broadway).
Doesn’t change anyone’s opinion on who is or isn’t a name, but she has stage chops and she’s certainly not a nobody.

I saw her in The Disappear just a few weeks ago, which I think is still running? She must be rehearing Becky Shaw before performing downtown. Shes a perfectly fine actress (i didnt see her in Little Shop but only heard good things).
