I'll believe it when I see it but she is WAY too young to adequately portray this role.
I heard from a VERY *reliable* source that Idina was comming back for the umpteenth-time...

"But, yeah, it's Lea. The whole Stephanie/Sebastian thing didn't work out."
Would you mind sharing what happened? Is it because of 9 to 5? Or something with Sebastian?
Thanks!

I just googled "Lea Michele Wicked" and I found this interview with her from November of 06.
Q: What are some of your dream roles?
Michele: Oh my gosh, I have so many. I will be honest — I want to be Elphaba in Wicked. Let me be Elphaba in Wicked, and I'll be happy. [Laughs.]

Does she have that strong of a voice? It doesn't sound like it from Spring Awakening. She has a pretty voice and she can belt, but can she handle that score?
"I also don't think it will raise ticket prices... She wasn't nominated for the Tony, few people will remember her, I think, from her stints in Ragtime, etc, and only theater people (meaning us) will truly know her, and even then, you can see just from this thread who's a fan and who's not."
Um, I don't think the producers are hiring Michele to raise ticket prices. The show's sold out into the next decade.
I honestly don't know where my mind was. I was probably reading something else at the same time. I didn't mean to say raise ticket prices, that's silly. I meant that it wouldn't increase the popularity. Not many average people will say, "Lea is playing Elphaba!" and rush to the box office to secure tickets. And for every average person that for some reason does do that, there will be a BWWer right by their side who will quickly talk them out of it
I really don't want this to be true. She is to young and her role in Spring Awakening tires her out. How the hell would she do Elphaba? I don't know if she can even handle the score.
She can belt! She does a killer ON MY OWN.

I'm curious... have any *cough* proof of this awesomeness?
I second that. PM me please...
I hope this is not true. I did love Lea in Spring Awakening and I think she's very talented but I don't think she should be in this role right now. I agree with those who think she should wait a few years - her voice didn't impress me as being strong enough for a song like "Defying Gravity" or "No Good Deed."

according to Lea Michele's myspace, the rumor is NOT true

I thought I read somewhere in this thread that IDINA was coming back?? Is this true.. Or just like someone's dream?
From the blog/myspace... "I want sooooo badly to Elphaba"
So we've now verbified Elphaba???
I don't really get the whole "she's too young" argument. She actually is the right age for Elphaba. If the Wizardry school where Glinda and her go is the equivalent of college, then Michele is the perfect age for the role. "Popular" makes so much sense when it is performed by a teenager/young-looking actress and the whole issues with Elphaba being accepted in school takes a more realistic level if a girl of Michele's age is playing the part.
Act II doesn't take place that much longer after Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch of the West. I mean, Michele can play 24-25 years old. Also, it's not like the characters in WICKED are so profound and three-dimensional that Michele needs decades of life experience to recall so she can convincingly play the character.

Yeah that's what I thought too. She's the perfect age for the role, but the role is constantly played by older actresses/singers that people forget how young Elphie actually is.
she just wrote that to mislead her readers.
she knows she's got it.
Or it was just posted here as a false lead to throw people off. I don't care to know who is replacing Julia Murney, but I'd rather not see people who really know starting rumors.
As I said in the other thread that posted Michele's blog entry, I stand by the information as it came from Julia Murney herself.
Michele was asked by the producers of "Spring.." to keep the information quiet until it is officially announced. The wording in the item she posted still left the possibility of her future with "Wicked" very open, and I'm guessing this was a deliberate move on her part.
We'll see when the press release comes out.
Yeah... Maybe she will Elphaba (her wording...not mine) after all. And then we can all see what it means to Elphaba. :P
I just want to know the date...October 9th?
Julia leaves October 7th. The replacement starts October 9th.
