Again, WHAT does it mean "to Elphaba"? :) (Read Lea's note carefully. She says she wants "soooo badly to Elphaba".)

I think Julie Reiber [Standby for Elphaba in LA] should take over for Julia when she leaves in October.

Julie's voice is so beautiful and her "Wizard and I" on that site you can't name here is amazing!

Reiber seems to struggle getting through the score the few times she goes on as standby. I'd hate to hear what singing it eight times a week on a regular basis would do to her voice (though she is a great talent.)
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Very few people could get me to see Wicked again. Lea Michele is not one of those people (unfortunately for me, Julia is). I am admittedly one of the biggest Julia fans of the... century, but going from Murney to Michele? That's quite a change. I'm not trying to be negative- I really liked Lea in SA. But frankly I just don't think she can do it.

So, wait a sec.

Are they leaving on the same day? Is that common? Sorry for my ignorance...

Also what days has everyone heard? I haven't seen anything on Kendra or Julia's fansites (Kendra's has been down the last 2 weeks), but a lot of fans are saying 10/7 like it's fact for both women. A few people already have their tickets on the other board I post on.

I'd LOVE to see them together before one (or both) leaves the show. On it's own, 'Wicked' is a 6/10 for me as far as musicals go, but I loved the way they played their characters.

Some chick on youtube is saying Kendra is supposed to leave in August. But some quasi-insiders tell me it's definately a go for Jules on Oct 7. I haven't heard as many rumors about Kendra, which is a shame because she is great with her Karen Walker, Shirley Temple, Judy Holiday Galinda. I'd love to see them both again (together) before they're gone.

I would personally love to see Victoria Matlock as Elphaba. I saw her one time as Julia's understudy, then saw Julia, and I thought Victoria was eons better.

And Michele as Elphie? Don't get me wrong, I love that girl and her voice to absolute death, but there's no way she can pull off Elphaba. She's not strong enough of an actress, for one, and for two she doesn't have the vocal strength. She's simply just... not commanding enough to play her. I'd love to see Michele as Nessa, though. I think that would be fabulous.

Okay, let it never be said that I'm not a fan of Lea Michele, but I think it would be incredibly stupid of her to be Elphie now. I think she's pretty taleted but the poor girl seems to be living under the delusion that she's Idina Menzel! Looking like someone does not give you their talent! So maybe she should stay with Wendla for a while. Who knows, maybe someday she'll Defy Gravity.

Lea isn't taking over for Julia. A temporary replacement has been chosen. Its a shorter contract, I don't know why that is. Your guess is as good as mine. It's someone who has played the role before, doesn't necessarily mean on Broadway.

And yet that could possibly mean that Lea WILL play Elphie in the near future. A temporary replacement- maybe just long enough for Lea to finish out her contract with Spring Awakening? I pray to God I'm wrong, but you have to admit it's plausible. My money's on Stephanie Block, though.

re: Who is taking over for Julia and Kendra in October when they leave Wick

My guess is that they'll bring Stephanie Block in to play the role from October through the holidays (which would surpass Michele's contractual end date at Spring Awakening in November) and then bring in Lea to succeed her shortly after the new year.

That would jive with the several cast members who've said she was joining the company (and a more recent production source who said she was not necessarily begining right after Julia Murney departs the production.)

I'm not into Wicked much, but I love JM. I could care less who replaces her, but I really want to be there for her last day.

When do they usually announce a formal departure date?
