Smaxie, love the idea of Bebe Neuwirth, she's definitely the ideal Morticia.
Barbara Walsh couldd work as well.
However, given it's Lippa, it'll probably be Julia Murney or Idina Menzel.

Ruthie Henshall gets my vote, I think she'd be PERFECT.
Bebe would also be a great choice, but would she really consider it?
1.Bebe Neuwirth (although I can't really see her doing this)
2.Barabra Walsh
JAN MAXWELL!!!!!!!!
The best suggestion in this entire thread. She would be BRILLIANT.
But I also wouldn't mind seeing Donna Murphy.
But let's not forget...the musical adaptation is not of the TV show or of the films - it's SOLELY an adaptation of the comics.
Sara Ramirez! No doubt!
My first thought was deff. Bebe.
I betcha it's gonna be Julia...Lippa produced her album and has conducted for her. I wouldn't be at all suprised if she lands the role which she'd be wonderful in!
I don't know...I haven't been too impressed with Julia's comedic skills.
That's why I think Jan Maxwell could do it. She's brilliant at drama AND comedy. She transformed CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG from a kid's show to an adult show.

Okay, as long as this thread has been started two years ahead of time...
...let me just say (are you with me, WickedRentQ and Yero?)...
...Rachel York.
Oh, come on. You all knew that was coming from me.

Bebe has been the best suggestion thus far (and my first thought). Donna Murphy also seems like a great fit for the role. It's actually pretty hard- especially as she's not a big personality- so her comedic timing needs to be subtle and dark (big no for Beth Leavel).
I would love to see the role played by Maya Rudolph as Donatella Versace.

That's your Morticia!
Are you people forgetting UTE LEMPER! UTE LEMPER is Morticia Addams. She has impeccable comic timing, can dance like a dynamo and has a vampy nature. It's all about the UTE!!!

Sara Ramirez or Donna Murphy
The problem with both is their repeated absences
It's GOTTA be BEBE..!
How perfect is that? Better choice than Murphy. It just seems like a natural fit for Bebe's look and acting style.

*Yawn* Some people need to get over themselves...
While Donna Murphy is my favorite Broadway actress, this role belongs to either Bebe Neuwirth (who IS Morticia) or Jan Maxwell. Neuwirth's voice, however, is the one that I find better-suited to Lippa's usual style. Maxwell understand dark comedy and would make this role seem like a natural for her.
I like Julia Murney and believe she'll end up playing the role due to her history with Lippa, however, I think she's the choice that I'd be the least excited about.
Re Murphy Harold prince reportedly told Murphy her career was in jeopardy if her absences continued

singingbackup - I can't believe someone else was thinking as I was. Everytime I see Cher, I think of Morticia.
With that said, I think Caitlin Hopkins would be my next choice and then Bebe. Those pictures are pretty convincing haha.

Another vote for Donna Murphy. She's the first person I thought of. I also like the Jan Maxwell suggestion. Great Actress.
It's "K"aitlin Hopkins...for the record.

Bebe Neuwirth is a great match, I'd say -- huge name, and definitely a fit for the part. What's not to like?
Other fantastic names mentioned? Sara Ramirez, Julia Murney, and Beth Leavel. Beth and Sara both need something new away from Spamalot and Drowsy. Julia, on the other hand, just has that whole gloomy look about her anyway.
