Maybe it's just because I'm in 'that range'

Nah, I think it worked, and I was way young when I first saw it. I don't think i could have imagined them being virtually my age, for some reason. I also don't think making them specifically very young would have changed anything about the story -- it may have made it even *less* convincing, since then you would be looking at it alongside the notion of the frivolity of young love, etc.
Damn that Adam Pascal -- he can't sing, act, or dance, and he's so OLD.
DG, tell Cali to take good care of him.
Make sure the entire state knows, I say!

another vote for heather. just, takes your breath away.
question: did anyone ever see Saycon? I didn't but i heard not so good things about her...
#53re: Who was the best AIDA?
Posted: 4/27/06 at 2:16amI've only seen Simone, and I loved her, but after all the footage of the OBC I've seen over the years, and of course the OBCR...my vote goes to Heather, no contest.

Posted: 4/27/06 at 3:23amI saw Toni Braxton, Saycon, Tarea Campbell and Deborah Cox. I know i am going to be made fun of, but maybe it was just becuz she was the 1st Aida i saw, i felt that Toni Braxton was the best. Her voice was sounded so amazing and so distinctive, her acting was just ok, though. Saycon and Tarea were great, but none had a voice as different as Toni's. And Deborah was my least favorite, she was good in the role, her voice sounded fine and all, but she was too plain and her acting wasn't great either.

Toni was painful. Debroah Cox was flawless. Maya Days had it all.
I saw Saycon's first matinee. No comment.

Posted: 4/27/06 at 10:19amI remember seeing an early preview of Aida, when Heather sang the "Dance of the Robe" (Aida) song and at the finish the audience clapped for nearly five mintues straight and she just held that pose it was magic. It is shame her R&B albums are not showcasing her amazing talent and range.

"Is Aida being made into a movie??"
I wish that The Disney Channel or The Wonderful World of Disney on ABC would do a made-for-TV movie version of the show produced by Neil Meron, written by Susan Lori Parks, directed by Emile Ardolino and starring a cast of twentysomething unknowns.
If put together correctly, this could become a TV classic, and a perennial favorite, especially amongst teens and twentysomethings.
But unfortunately, they will want it to star Beyonce, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. That would be a disaster.
Justin and Bouncy in particular, don't have the right voices for the lead roles. And sticking the most well-known people in roles isn't always best for a project.

If Justin Timberlake went anywhere NEAR Radames, I'd have to hurt someone.
What is with people wanting him to play Adam's parts? That's such a slap in the face to Adam.

I remember hearing that Bon Jovi was really interested in doing Rahdames in the movie version. He showed up to Lestat so I wonder if he is itching to get involved in film musicals via Elton John. I guess we will have to see how Dreamgirls and Hairspray do. It finally seems like they are going to get the right mix of material and commercial viability right. I think Aida really has a chance if they can get some cool people in it. Maybe Kelly Clarkson could be Amneris. I really really really want Heather to repeat her role.
I would be very interested in seeing how this film will be done. Liz Taylor Egypt or Bob Crowley Vegas Egypt?
Although I'm really looking forward to a Hunchback TV movie and the Annie Get Your Gun w/Reba, I cringe when I think of the budgets and art direction of these films. "Once Upon a Mattress" was an atroc****ty, I REALLY hated the camera work and the set. The same with Geppetto and Muppet Wizard of Oz. Musicals need to be epic and large. The singing thing just doesnt work for normal television aspect ratio. At least not for me it doesnt.

Why post on on AIDA thread just to whine about how the opera is "better? *rolls eyes*
I'm in the minority, but Heather's voice does nothing for me. I don't like how she sounds at all. I would have to say Deborah Cox was INCREADIBLE, she was definetely my favorite.

It's probably because he has the highest profile of any white, male, solo, pop singers out there.
Also, if she knew about the technical aspects of film, I think Heather Headley would actually be an excellent director for such a project. She knows the character inside and out and she certainly understands the story.

Saw the show four times. My favorites in order:
1) Heather Headley - perfect
2) Deborah Cox - a close second, really enjoyed her interpretation
3) Simone - did a decent job
4)Toni Braxton - painful, just painful...horrible acting, not the right voice for Aida

"I remember hearing that Bon Jovi was really interested in doing Rahdames in the movie version."
WAs there actual talk of a movie version at one time? Well slap me silly! I'd have thought that the show was too stylized to have many people interested in adapting it for the screen. I mean, this show would be harder to adapt than Chicago.
Anyway, I think Bon Jovi would be a good choice for Radames. The only problem is that he's bit long in the tooth, as are all the OBC members, IMO.
I think the Aida trio should all be under 30, especially in a movie version.

Well based on how many times I've seen it(7 - twice with Heather, twice with Deborah, one with Maya, Saycon & Thursday Farrah[original Aida standby]), plus from what my friends have told me about the others[Schele Williams, Michelle Williams, Braxton, Simone, & Tarea Campbell], this is how I'd rank them:
1. Heather Headley
2. Deborah Cox
3. Maya Days
4. Saycon Sengbloh
5. Schele Williams
6. Simone
7. Thursday Farrar
8. Toni Braxton
9. Tarea Campbell
10. Michelle Williams

As far as Justin Timberlake's profile as a celebrity and a pop star, I'd argue that the AIDA score (Rent, too, for whatever it was worth when it was an issue) is far more rock than it is pop.
What is this movie people speak of? I thought the remote possibility was of Aida as an animated movie.
#73re: Who was the best AIDA?
Posted: 4/27/06 at 9:00pmI don't think there's any movie possibility at the moment, just idle speculation here. Apparently Bon Jovi was interested in doing the stage version, not some hypothetical movie version.
