Whatever show goes in, they should hire David Rockwell as the designer or consultant.
His set for ROCKY HORROR was the best use of that space I have ever seen.
Having WICKED and GODSPELL next to each other is interesting but with WICKED's success, I feel they will want a larger theatre for GODSPELL.

Godspell would be perfect for Circle in the Square, because it's an intimate show and it needs and smaller stage, plus Godspell kind of sucks and I don't think it could sell out a bigger house.

Is there some almighty law that says a show can't change theaters before it opens? Because [TOS] really does belong at the Circle in the Square. Although I'm not opposed to Godspell or Saved! taking it.

Since when was SAVED looking to transfer on Broadway?

And didn't GODSPELL already snag a theatre?

The contracts for TOS is probably already signed. The sets have been designed for a specific theater. It's a lot more than you might think.
Other than that, did you enjoy the play Mrs Lincoln?

Why on earth do people continue to abbreviate show titles? I couldn't really read this thread because of things like:

"What about FDEIFGLDF?"

"Does FGW have a show yet?"

Jesus, people.

1) GODSPELL does not suck

2) they are looking for a bigger theatre

3) since when is SAVED coming to Broadway?? Let's not jump the gun too quickly...

4) What theatres does the Shubert own? It's been said, for months now, that GODSPELL was looking to book a Shubert theatre.

Godspell does not work in a proscenium theatre. It needs to be an intimate space and fully involve the audience to succeed. A smaller house like Circle would consistently sell, particularly if Wicked audiences come out after the show and go "Oh, hey, another show by the same guy! Let's get tickets!"

I'm pretty sure that the four chairs for title of show aren't being redesigned for the Lyceum.

And liverpool, I'm with you, I have absolutely no interest in Godspell.

13 is at the Jacobs in the fall.
Tale of Two Cities has the Hirschfeld.

If Godspell is going to a Shubert, something would have to close pretty soon at one of their theatres for the show to be in by July. I wonder what...

It isn't unprecedented for a show to change thetres before opening. It happened with Caine Mutiny Court-Martial a couple years ago. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was going to be at the Lyceum, but Dancer's Life closed, allowing it to move to the Schoenfeld, and allowing Lieutenant of Inishmore to play the Lyceum.

I really wish Godspell would play at the Circle on the Square. The intimateness would be perfect for the show, and more crowds would be brought in w/ wicked next door.

re: Who will be the next tenant of Circle on the Square?

I have to agree that Godspell at the Circle would be fabulous! If you don't get tickets to Wicked you can go down the hall and see Godspell.

AND I will always have a soft spot for Godspell. It was the very first musical I ever saw. And also the first professional show (non equity but I got paid) I ever did. (And got to choreograph)

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

Although it won't play there as it booked the Lyceum, [title of show] would have been perfect there...and I don't think they'll keep it vacant this long, but Next to Normal if it makes the transfer everyone is anticipating would be great there too.

If that's gonna happen it won't be til early 09 as they already have a run at Arena in DC at the end of the year planned and announced.

re: Who will be the next tenant of Circle on the Square?

with the cast they're boasting (including Gavin, Josh, Sara, and more) I don't know how you could say that.

the new arrangements should be pretty fabulous too. I'm excited!

didn't 13 already book the Jacobs? I don't think they're moving into the Circle...

I predict GODSPELL will grab it. makes sense. and they've been all talk (shubert, shubert, shubert) and no action. time to change that. book the Circle!
