Oh I am sure. Not a easy thing to talk about. Still.. they talk about this kind of stuff all the time. So I would hope she would rise to the occasion. Megan Went to town on Chris Cuomo a few weeks ago because he won’t cover his brothers drama on his show. I am just saying that in the style of the show it could be hypocritical if she doesn’t address it.

Where did you get that “rule” that family can’t cover one another on TV? A few years ago back when Stephen Colbert was still doing the Colbert Report, his sister was running for Congress in his home state of South Carolina, and, he talked about it on his show on more than one occasion.


Anyways, I feel like between this thread and some of the other ones on this topic have mentioned the same thing. That is, the idea that people in power in the industry should say something about this on a public platform if they are fortunate to have one. Now, I’m gonna give Whoopi a pass here. For all we know, she may have wanted to bring it up, but was told not to by the producers of The View. Not saying it did but it is a realistic possibility.

As for other theatre actors, we don’t know what they are going through in their day to day lives. I mean, if they have a family to support, and feel that speaking out can cause them potential work going forward and need to support their family etc they get a pass in my book. Overall point is, just because we think that a name Broadway or otherwise can/should stand up and say something, there are other mitigating factors that we don’t know that can be legit reasones for them to stay silent On the subject.

THR has had a long turbulent history, including publishing accusations of communist ties and Hollywood blacklists. I'm not sure who owns it right now, but several years ago it was bought by a group with close ties to right wing organizations. It continues to have a wide "conservative" following that is constantly baited with the Evil Hollywood myth. As such, it seems a bit bizarre that people are making demands that others speak out and organizing protests based upon one take-down article in a very suspect publication.

I guess we're back to the "off topic" part of the thread. THR was acquired by Penske Media about a year ago, a company owned by the son of a major Trump donor and partially financed by Mohammed Bin Salman. Penske Media also owns Rolling Stone, Variety, Deadline, etc. basically it has cornered the market in entertainment media.The original article about Rudin's bullying was published in THR before the company was acquired by Penske Media. However,the rebooting of the Rudin story by THR around two weeks ago started the whole ball rolling.As I said before, Rudin is responsible for his own undoing but outrage in the US is also a business. Our participation as media-consumer drones is capitalized on by the rich and powerful.

Looks like she didn't have much to say except introduce the topic and then ask each host what they thought. She didn't seem to have any thoughts of her own to share.

Correction on Joy Behar's point - Moulin Rouge can absolutely do the show without Karen Olivo, and will. I saw the show with her understudy and she was excellent in the role. That show does not need her, or any big names. The show is a spectacle, the attraction is the popularity of the movie, the brilliant production design/direction/choreography, and the incorporation of music in the new production. There are no names selling tickets to that show, no one is billed above the title. Yes, there are veterans that I and a lot of people here are fans of, but they are not household names and they have zero affect on ticket sales.

In the American Theatre interview, Karen Olivo refers to herself as a "headliner"????? No. She is not headlining - she is not billed above the title. You want to talk headliners? That's when shows are billed as "Bette Midler in Hello Dolly", "Patti LuPone in Gypsy", "Idina Menzel in If/Then", "Jeff Daniels in To Kill a Mockingbird". You are the headline when your name is literally above the title. You might have a lead role but headlining you are not. No one is banking on people flying in from middle America to see you. I'm sorry, but the show will certainly go on."

The show went on both times I saw Moulin Rouge and Karen was not there. I adored the standby, but would've loved to have seen Karen. Not to be, I suppose.

Hogans my point was it is silly to think that a person's popularity among Democrats would protect them from censure. As well it should be. My point was not anti-Democratic.
