The State of Broadway

Jul 14, 2026 — 12:10:34 PM

I don't know much about the intricate workings at play here, but Broadway feels a little bit like a mafia. A series of monopolies, forcing costs to be exorbitant. Does anyone here have insight into this? Why does everyone use the same company to load up sets when a run closes? Is everyone using the same scene shop/set builders? Do producers really have a choice, or is it virtually impossible as things are to reduce costs?

Andrew Lloyd Webber has released a statement in regards to Cats: The Jellicle Ball closing:https://www.instagram.com/p/DaxlrZWDDHj/So given that, what do you all think needs to happen? What do producers, theatre owners, and unions need to do, to save, nurture, and preserve broadways future?

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/6/26

I mean it’s certainly interesting to note. The movie seemed to both help Wicked, and now possibly hurt it. Likely an issue of saturation, that could resolve over time with smart marketing and casting choices.

That wasn't sustainable and we're seeing that bubble burst. I don't think it's in imminent danger of closing, but it is in a correction period after such sustained interest."I'd have to imagine Wicked has some money put aside for these occasions, no? Do Broadway shows that have long since recouped create a "c...

The 79th Annual Tony Awards Telecast!

I don’t understand the confusion over The Lost Boys? I know it’s a show with issues, but the performance was good, and easy to understand. Of all the shows I feel Schmigadoon and The Lost Boys sold tickets tonight.

Shady business but they could wait however many months to record it, then call it a studio album to pay everyone a bit less.Being that one of the lead producers is a tour booker, I still do expect this to tour if they can scrape the cash together."the good news is they built a tour set already… and just put it on a broadway stage.

There were a couple of moments that I missed when I've seen other Mary's in the role, but overall a very fun evening. One thing to note...Dino Fetscher in those pants. Holy cow, seeing that was worth the admission." We thought the same thing. Let them eat cake indeed!

Related but unrelated. Per Jessica’s TikTok… a super fan got backstage and to her dressing room. This is crazy. Don’t do this. https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSxFu7V9A/

No clue if that was the original image posted, and if that’s a real photo of the damage or someone sharing a photo and saying it’s the damage… but if it is… oof.

Even Schmigadoon! is in a bad place with an average ticket price like that. Rough times. Hopefully the reviews give it a boost in the coming weeks. Also worried for The Lost Boys...Beaches is a foregone conclusion, it's not a matter of if, just a matter of when.DBH is needing an injection of life ASAP.

It does bug me that we don’t get many equity tours but I’m honestly happy that we aren’t getting cats or wicked again"This past season was a good one for equity shows (only Clue is non-equity). This new season is a disappointment in that regard. also The Bodyguard… what?
