I thought it was a well acted show. But, the subject matter was a little sad. Tourists, I think, want to see happy things not a woman spiraling into dementia.
They want to see chandeliers & helicopters
I hope that's not the case, Roxy, but I think you have a good point there.
So, is this going to tour, or what? London still on?
Heard Rue McClanahan was approached to replace Wilson.
"So, is this going to tour, or what? London still on?"
The website is still up and being updated. This banner was added just this week...

Yeah, I saw that. I'm dubious about it actually opening in London after all this negativity in the gossip column however.
EDIT: Must change "press" to "gossip column". Reidel should never have been referred to as the "Press".
Had that banal piece of crap called Spring Awakening either stayed Off-Broadway or failed miserably, Grey Gardens would still be running.
"Also moving it to Broadway might not have been the best thing for the show. I know someone who saw the show several times and said it lost something in the larger space."
Everyone I've talked to has said that moving it to The Kerr was an improvement. The show came alive on Broadway. I liked the show an awful lot at Playwrights, but I felt it really worked better on Broadway.
I don't think that the post is at all a relibale paper. however, Ridel has said things in the past that are pretty reliable. Just because something is in the NY post which is a bad paper doesn't mean that their writing or what they have to say is bad.
And, I NEVER said that I was taking what Ridel said as fact. I was just saying what I read.
Did you get a chance to visit the EOD site to find out that these producers have actually been in this game for quite awhile?
After perusing that site, and reading other internet info on them, I was quite surprised at Reidel's description of them. It seemed inaccurate at best, and slanderous at the worst.
This is what leads me to beleive he has some personal issue with the Gonda's.
I absolutely love this show and felt so bad when I heard it was closing. I got to see it at the beginning of July (and meet Christine Ebersole who was so nice!) and I thought it was fantastic. I listen to the soundtrack every day now. I can only pray that it will tour so I can see it again, however I do agree that the tabloid ads really didn't represent the meaning of the show. It was about a mother and a daughter's love for each other and it was quite funny and heartwarming. The ads made it seem like it was about a scandal. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen and it is unfortunate that it is no longer on Broadway while other lower quality shows are still running.

oh idk i was talking about the cast recording. sorry idk why i said soundtrack.
It's okay. I was just being an asshole for a change.
As nice as it is to imagine that the ads could have conveyed the heartwarming fuzziness of Grey Gardens, I think the tabloid advertisements were great. That was the original appeal of the Beales (as tabloid curiosities) and it's definitely a slant in the show.
I think the simple fact was that the show didn't generate enough interest in itself. Oh well.
Nor do I think Spring Awakening stole its thunder. Christine Ebersole got a considerable amount of attention. I don't really think it was ever the sort of show that roars in on a cloud of thunder anyway.
I think this particular show will do alot better in London - but I agree with an above comment - the marketing for this show wasn't the greatest to say the least.

Because America is filled with people with no taste and tourists who won't take a chance. The marketing was bad as well.
(For an example of the first, see above^)
Mouses Magic,
Go away. Just please go away.

Actually, I have taste, and brains to..unlike you. The thing about taste is, everyone has their own unique flavor. Just because I dislike something that you enjoy doesn't mean I dont have taste, it just means we have different tastes. Try to mature a little...thanks darlin!
But it wasn't boring. I mean, the score was great, the book was well written, the story was interesting, Ebersole, Wilson and the cast were all wonderful and the kids ate catfood durring a crossover. What more could you want?
And you (unlike me) have brains? Well, why don't you spell the word "too" correctly?

Oh dear god your cute!
jv- Mouses Magic is just bitter because The Little Mermaid is apparently the worst thing since Paris Hilton's debut album.

This is why it is so hard to voice opinions on this forum....because if you are in the minority about something then you are automatically labeled "stupid", "tasteless", "tourist", "what's wrong with society". If something is not my cup of tea, it does not make me any of these. Its kind of sick that the people who are into the arts who claim to be so cultured, can't accept people for who they are and what they do and do not like. To each his own, people, to each his own.
If Grey Gardens closed because it was boring, The Lion King should have closed in a week.
I'm just sayin...
