PG2, I'm just putting the dregs of the earth in their place.
And with that statement, you placed them above yourself.
While I do not agree with massofmen that the other shows pale in comparison to Rock of Ages (I haven't even seen them all live, but I doubt that it is a fair statement given the level of artistic creativity in many of the shows), which is his own opinion, the same as that of anyone else on this thread. But the fact remains that it still is not even remotely the majority opinion of Rock of Ages "fans" (or just people who enjoyed the show) any more than RippedMan's saying that "people on this board think 9 to 5 is like God's answer to musical theater".

by the way. I didn't say that the other shows pale in comparison. I liked N2N and BElliot. I just think when the mass audience who watches the tony's sees the ROA performance it will blow the other 3 away easily.
That's all. :)
well, I don't know if it will blow the others away. I think it will be fun and silly and do all it needs to do, but this is Billy's night... maybe N2N if voters are feeling extra artsy this year. That being said I do think ROA will benefit the greatest from the telecast (Billy is already selling through the roof, they don't need the help). ROA's performance will reach the hearts and minds of the "non theater" community that may stumble on the broadcast more than the others I think.
And to answer the OP question: I don't think they believe it makes the show god, but just validates their opinions. For weeks leading into ROA opening, many, many on here said it was going to get trashed by the critics.
I think I'd be pretty happy, too, if I was already a fan to get such positive "proof" of it being a fun and likable show.

And that even entertaining the notion of a single Tony nomination was a sign of ignorance and immaturity. There was a LOT of that going around and I really haven't seen anything resembling even a slight humble remark stating that perhaps the fans had a point and were perceptive to something the detractors may have ignored or missed.

Massofmen:
"Oh and that their producers are buying tix to make it look like the grosses are higher than they are. But we have already established that fact"
-Really? Where's your source.
Massofmen wrote one of the stupidest posts I have ever read. So apparently 80's songs aren't something that tourists and New York bar-goers recognize. LOL!
it always strikes me as funny when people say the plot in musical theater is "thin". it is, after all, musical theater. "Rock of Ages" has been wrongly accused, and it makes me think about "Hair" and all it's praise and hoopla over the last 40 years...
nothing against the revival, the cast, the staging...but c'mon...a bunch of hippies dance around...some burn draft cards...the one who doesn't bites it. let the sun shine.
ROCK OF AGES is also a boatload of fun. the book is clever. and I think Constantine is WAY more depthful than Gavin...if one must compare. As with the majority of the journey so far, I think there will be some major surprises June 7th. remember when Avenue Q kicked Wicked to the curb? watch it billys!

Massofmen? HELLO?!?!?! DO you have your source yet?
And why the hell would he share his source on this kind of information with you!? ... Or on a message board for that matter? Nobody owes you a source, jazz. you can simply chose to believe it or not. Nobody gives a crap.

The fact that you are comparing Hair and Rock of Ages is the most PATHETIC thing I have ever heard. Hair has A HUNDRED times more depth and originality to it then Rock of Ages ever will. Constantine is more depthful than Gavin? Does Constantine die at the end of Rock of Ages laying there under an American Flag with snow falling on him? Didn't think so. OH, and Rock of Ages WILL NOT and I repeat NEVER win Best Musical, quit dreaming. Absolutely pathetic.
Ok....I'm sorry but my 8 year old could lie "dead" on the American flag with snow falling on him. THAT does not make a performance but a production.
CS, why so defensive? If a THOUSAND people think Constantine is a great actor: so be it. They can think whatever they want. Your opinion is no more "right" than is theirs. Truly.
I'm not sticking up for ROA...haven't seen it. I am sticking up for the right of posters to have whatever opinion they want to and not be yelled at for having it.
Yes, I know the yelling has gone both ways, but this isn't a pissing contest.
Considering everyone kept saying that ROA couldn't possibly be nominated and it happened; you might not want to spew "never" around. Anything is possible.
Hell, there's no guarantee that HAIR is going to win best revival although (most of us agree that) it is by far the most superior show. Let it go.

Srsly.
Hair didn't win Best Musical.
It really does get old that you people, and you know who you are, get your panties in a bunch if anyone says a good word about ROA. Really, what is your problem? Why does that threaten you? I am not pathetic, uneducated or a dreg of earth. I have never called anyone names here, no matter how much I disagree with their opinion. Why don't the rest of you grow the f**k up? Go listen to your Hair cast album and chill.
Oooooh I love it when CS gets all twisted. I asked both you and the Charleston (or whatever name he uses these days) to sit next to me during ROA Previews and got no response. Vocallizzy was ready to buy y'all drinks and everything! Invitation still stands.
Never say never, people. There are not a lot of Tony Voters. People pay attention to these Boards. Constantine was nominated because he's GREAT in a role he originated. That counts, whether you like the show (OR HAVE EVEN SEEN IT) or not. I love it. Mr. Maroulis is charming, humble, talented and most worthy of the nomination. Get over it.
I never said he wasn't talented. He obviously is. But it is obvious the Tony is going to the Billy boys or Creel.
People claimed it was obvious Rock of Ages wouldn't get a single nomination. Sometimes surprises happen. Sometimes they don't. Assuming they aren't a possibility is just pretentious. Nobody here knows the outcome.

So it's okay to tell unbacked up facts that could possibly be lies?
it wouldn't be the first time on here. I just think it's laughable that you think someone would really offer up that kind of a source. I personally have heard the same info from reliable sources but you do not have to believe me either. Doesn't matter one way or another. The show will go on or close no matter what kind of chatter goes on in this message board. Why? Because the reality is that nobody who matters REALLY gives a crap what is said on here... my opinion included. It is all noise... and simply a place for people to feel important and heard, even for a brief moment.
