Name someone ( who saw it) that didn't like it???

I'm not saying that they think it should win the award- just that they didn't like it.

I took a busfull on Sunday- all ages, male and female- not one person had a bad thing to say.
I know people were not thrilled with the audience behavior at times- again I haven't heard anyone say the show wasn't good. & Charleston doesn't count.

Did you go around and interview every single person?

The best time you have had in a theater?

That is because you ONLY go to the Brooks Atkinson to see Rock of Ages.

I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&. "Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."

LOL
Do you know me?
Do you have any idea what I've seen?

I bet I've been going to Broadway shows since before you were born.

Love it Jane!

A couple next to me did not come back after intermission.

I could tell it wasn't their cup of tea.

It's okay not to like the show. I certainly don't expect every single person on earth to like it.

From looking around the theater during the show, I would say the percentage of people who leave the show before it's over is small.

I've only been to the show at the Brooks three times, and that was on two consecutive days. I'm an out of towner.

Mister Matt...I didn't mean the comment above me was nasty etc...just the battle over "how could you say something terrible about a show I love" battles in general.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Sure it is, IF you have seen it.
Just don't put something down that you haven't been to and why insult people who like it?
I hated Butley, thought Nathan Lane was boring.
What purpose whould it serve to insult anyone who liked it or is a fan of his?

Personally, I would never dream of seeing a play or musical tha hadn't received good reviews. But that's just me.

It's okay to not like the show, that's fine. I didn't mean to star this ridiculously stupid "war" on the boards. I just have a problem with people feeling like "9 to 5" was ROBBED of its rightful Tony. It didn't deserve it. The creative team was basically handed a hit, and they couldn't make it work. That's their fault.

^ That's NOT the general opinion, and that's what we keep trying to explain to you.

It actually IS the general opinion out there. That's what we keep trying to explain to YOU. Hench the references to REVIEWS, TICKET SALES, TONY NOMINATIONS... things that can more accurately give OBJECTIVE insight into the quality and/or popularity of a production. Y'know, as opposed to just relying on anonymous fan posts or bitchy slams on a broadway message board.

Coming here for objective information on a show is like watching Fox news to find out what's going on in politics.

^ REALLY?!?!?! ROA is selling more tickets than 9 to 5 for higher prices and therfore having higher grosses?

You are stupid.

As I've explained to you you can't compare their actual grosses because 9 to 5 is in a bigger theater. You have to look how much money is being made over their weekly "nut" and the average ticket price. Obviously, Rock of Ages isn't that bad off financially because it didn't get some big story in the Post.

Not sure I totally follow the grammar of what you wrote but if I can decipher it...

yes, actually ROA is selling more tickets than 9 to 5. AND the producers of ROA are NOT buying their own seats like 9 to 5 in order to boost grosses.

okay, usually i keep out of stuff like this but i have to comment here. i take offense to being called the "dregs of the earth" as an ROA fan. i loved Story of My Life, one of my favorite shows, not because of the cast but because of the message, loved RENT for the same reason. So being a college educated person, working on a masters degree, how does that make me and the scores of other well educated people who enjoy ROA because it's a good time, less worthy theater fans?

"yes, actually ROA is selling more tickets than 9 to 5. AND the producers of ROA are NOT buying their own seats like 9 to 5 in order to boost grosses. "

I know there's no link you can provide, but how do you know this? It's about the third time I've heard that about 9-5, and not just on message boards, but (and no offense) I wouldn't call any of the sources reliable.

Quite frankly, bad reviews or not, Tony noms or not, I can't understand how 9-5, with Dolly plastered everywhere, wouldn't be doing great at the Box office.

^ Bingo. ROA is also DONE with their comped tickets for critics and 9 to 5 WILL slowly climb in brosses. Yes I can compare grosses of ROA to 9 to 5 because ROA is NOT SELLING OUT!! If 9 to 5 were in that theatre it would be selling out every night, while ROA is having strong attendance numbers, it's not like it's reaching it's maximum ever night like 9 to 5 would be if it were in that theatre. I only tell facts and WELL EDUCATED NON-BIASED opinions.

"You're a toddler mentally if not also physically. I'm directing this not only to the imbecile who made these remarks, but any of you tots who resort to babyish personal attacks, including the tot who called the fans dregs of the earth. Infant!. Are you able to discuss something with any degree of intelligence?"

Pot, meet kettle. Case in point? Your childish attack on "theater snobs" by posting that nasty photograph. You attacked me personally for no reason at all in a similar way some time back by posting a photo of an unattractive man, implying that that was what I looked like. Later you backed off of that by claiming it was your uncle Stanley - though why you would post a random photo of your uncle made no sense in that context. Will you later claim that nose-picking "theater snob" is your nephew Sidney? You're certainly keeping in with your claim that you like to be crude sometimes. That photo is pretty crass, and is as babyish attack as they come.

I don't understand why the op saw fit to start this thread, and I think WAT is ridiculous in standing by his "dregs" statement, but I think the rest of you need to get over it. One poster said that, and I don't know why you take it so much to heart. Who the hell is he anyway? Hell, adopt it - call yourselves "dreggies".

But two wrongs don't make a right, and by posting that photo, you're being just as immature as they are.

It also cost far more to put 9 to 5 up every night. But y'know what... let's just wait and see which show last longer. All intelligent signs point to ROA.

Call me crazy, but reviews don't mean a damn thing to me nor any other creative team. All that matters to me is that I like the show

There is no show for you to like without a creative team.

Either you're misunderstanding me or I'm misunderstanding you, but I didn't say anything about thinking creative teams are useless. Snarkywannabedreamer

Let me spell it out for you and the other morons that can't seem to comprehend this fact.

9 T-O 5 J-U-S-T F-I-N-I-S-H-E-D I-T-S H-I-G-H-L-Y C-O-M-P-E-D P-E-R-F-O-R-M-A-N-C-E-S.

E-V-E-N- R-O-C-K O-F A-G-E-S W-A-S N-O-T M -A-K-I-N-G I-T-S N-U-T D-U-R-R-I-N-G I-T-S H-I-G-H-L-Y C-O-M-P-E-D P-E-R-F-O-R-M-A-N-C-E-S.

The point I'm making by ticket sales is, if you ROA fans can say that your show is better than 9 to 5 because of its reviews, that I can say 9 to 5 is better than ROA because more people are seeing it.
