"I'm actually using it as an example to show you how stupid you ROA's 'dregs of the earth' are. I'm saying that if it's legit to say that reviews tell us weather or not the show will succeed or weather or not the show is good, than I can say the same thing about attendance, in which 9 to 5 has a lot more people who see the show."
It's "whether" dumbass not "weather."
And dramamama11: I saw 9 to 5 twice and Rock of Ages once. I liked them both. I had a great time seeing both. I don't wish ill on either show. The problem I have is that people on this board think 9 to 5 is like God's answer to musical theater, and that it should have been nominated for 15 Tonys. The fact is, the show didn't reach it's potential. It could have been 10x better. The score is weak and unmemorable, and the book is very dull.

The score of lazy score of ROA was put together in 5 minutes and the book of ROA doesn't even TRY to be good.

Jazzy, did Constantine Maroulis molest you as a child or something?
Ease up. Seriously.

PG2, I'm just putting the dregs of the earth in their place.
"I'm just putting the dregs of the earth in their place. "
Oh we're in our place alright. Shaking our collective heads at the sad, bitter wannabe called "andallthatjazz." Those dreams of broadway haven't panned out for you have they? well, keep trying little dreamer! And keep putting down the work of others in the meantime. You got a lot of karma coming your way.
"PG2, I'm just putting the dregs of the earth in their place."
I nominate this as the funniest line on BWW!
Theater of the absurd.
..It's "whether" dumbass not "weather."
As long as you understand what someone is saying- LET IT GO.
This isn't English class.
Why people feel the need to insult others here is mind boggling.
ugh.

jazz what is your main point. seriously. Let's just get it out there. What are you trying to accomplish with this post? Everyone lives "wanting" something. What do you "want" from this post?
Here is what I want.
I want you to understand that the reason why 9-5 is selling tix is because they had what is called an advance sale. Which means..that they already sold 4 million dollars worth of tix. Which means that for the first month you will see their numbers at OK levels. Oh and that their producers are buying tix to make it look like the grosses are higher than they are. But we have already established that fact.
The problem is that once this first month is over, it will go down. Not as much, because the summer is here in June, and all shows go up in the summer and then hit death's door after labor day. Now IF 9-5 stays open throughout the summer(and not close right after the tony awards when they won't be able to show their show on it and ROA does something amazing and blows all the other shows away with some badass rock song while Shrek does Freak Flag or something boring), after labor day and on to thanksgiving, 9-5 will show its true colors. All shows do, which is why Labor day is a HUGE time when shows close. Which 9-5 will do along with probably Shrek and many others.
ROA barely had an advance at all from what I have read. Barely 1 million. So for them to be selling in the 90's even though the tix price is low is amazing. They have no brand name selling them. No movie title, no book, nothing. 80's songs sure, but nothing recognizable. It's kinda amazing for a show with NOTHING to brand itself with to be doing this well percentage wise so early in the game. What was the last show to do that? Think. No movie or book to help it and in the 90's percentile right away from Previews through opening? can you think of one? I can't. Not even in the Heights sold this well at first. Ave Q. Urinetown.. Drowsy? nothing like this. No one has seen numbers like these in a long long time.
And every week the numbers go up. Its kinda staggering.
ROA is doing very well. They just raised their tix prices so the avg tix sale will go up dramatically in the next month. The show might dip to 80's in percentage but the grosses will be higher.
Remember that ROA has a movie coming out in a year as well. Do you remember what happened to Hairspray when their movie came out? Chicago? Phantom? ROA is here for a long long time. And even if you don't like it..guess what..It doesn't matter.
Because apparently a whole lot of people do outside of this chat room. That's gotta hurt doesn't it. It hurts that your opinion doesn't mean anything in the real world of consumers. That the only people that care what you think or say are like 5 posters on this board while the rest of the world actually gets off their couch, puts the hummus away, and lives.
ROA is going to be here because the general public kinda loves it. You can either jump on board or get out of the way. Cause when ROA rocks radio city music hall on June 7th with some amazing number that makes the cartoon Shrek, those 3 ballet boys, and Alice Ripley and her pill popping songs, look like boring musical theater, the show is going to be the hottest ticket in town all summer long.
It's going to hurt so bad..I can already see your World of Warcraft characters crying. :)
sweet dreams.
Don't Stop Believing.
massofmen- I seriously can't even read your posts without getting mad.
First of all, you do not give ANY other shows ANY credit.
Next To Normal- Pill popping?
The "ballet boys" have got more talent in one sleeve compared to Constantine.
You are acting as if ROA is the most groundbreaking, original piece of theatre since West Side Story or something.
It is not. It has 80's rock hits that will apeal to any 80's fan.
Shutup and go away.
AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!
Can you ALL just grow the heck up?????????????????????????????
This is RIDICULOUS and getting worse, who is going to be the bigger blogger and STOP it????
I repeat: AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHh!!!
>>The "ballet boys" have got more talent in one sleeve compared to Constantine.
That is funny.
But they do dance nice.
If only you were a dancer you would understand how hard it actually is.
I didn't say it ws easy.
It doesn't make them BEST ACTOR.
>>It has 80's rock hits that will apeal to any 80's fan.
I wasn't an 80s fan. I don't even remember the 80s
those boys are super talented! So is Alice Ripley! So is Dolly Parton! She is actually one of my very favorite songwriters! And I think I own every one of Elton John's albums... most on vinyl. And I love me some sutton foster and had a great time giving myself over to Shrek. when are you people gonna grow up and realize it ain't a f**king competition!? This is just people trying to express themselves... entertain. Some want to entertain by making you think, feel sadness, be moved, uplifted... some just want you to have a really fun time. What is wrong with all these things existing for all kinds of audiences?! It is so f**king sad to read all the bile on these threads, all the ill-will, the attacks, it's really f**king lame. These shows aren't hurting anybody... even 9 to 5 and ROA as mindless fun are actually doing something good, something worthwhile. Maybe not for you but clearly for alot of others. Just shut the f**k up and go create something if you are so offended by such theater.
THUD.
Well I hate to break it to you...if you haven't seen Hair I think you can trust the people here on the boards who have seen both shows that Gavin Creel is giving a MUCH more depthful, round, and memorable portrayl of a character than Constantine is.
Not that Constantine isn't talented, cause he is, but Gavin is way more deserving of the Tony.

Honest to god, what IS your problem, you weird little sadist? And the rest of you, wannabe, simple, ripped...what's with the vitriol and name-calling? All of this is so unnecessary. Didn't your mothers teach you how to behave?

I saw both.
I disagree.
I don't want to change your mind.
I just have my own opinion.
Constantine is an amazing actor.
He sings nice too. :)
This. Is. HILARIOUS.
I have more to say but it's so not worth it. I'll just sit back and watch...we all know what side I'm on anyway.
Yeah he has also got an ego big enough to make all the ROA fans become scared.
And if you have seen other shows other than ROA how come you don't ever comment about other shows besides this and Guys and Dolls?
>>And if you have seen other shows other than ROA how come you don't ever comment about other shows
I've seen a lot of shows. Do I have to comment on them all?
I like it- It makes me happy.
The ones I don't like- I just stay out of those threads.
This really is a pointless battle. No one is going to side with anyone else until either show closes or the theaters burn to the ground.

Depthful?
I know I was going to point "depthful" out too but then I just got exhausted. If they are THAT dumb there is no getting through.
