".....I can say 9 to 5 is better than ROA because more people are seeing it. "

That remark started me thinking about the quality of a show and its relationship to the number of patrons who see it.

The number of people who saw CATS or for that matter, I LOVE YOU YOU'RE PERFECT, etc. is astronomical. I wouldn't rate the quality of those particular shows as high.

Then there's ROOMS, and other shows like it which have quality but very low numbers in attendance, and hence, are forced to close.

The key is to appeal to tourists. That's it.

this thread just made my day. I totaly agree with the OP she or he has there right to share there own opinion. it sounds like fans of ROA are sore losers who can't accept someones opinion about this so called brilliant show. but I would have to say Good reveiws are what get people in to the theatre.

"it sounds like fans of ROA are sore losers ....."

Just curious, how are the fans of ROA sore losers? What have they lost?

i love other opinions! I just don't like being called a "moron" or the "dregs of society" or a "waste of humanity." Does that make me a "sore loser?" (not sure what the f**k that even means in this context) Does that make me intolerant of other opinions? give me a break.

This entire ROA spectacle can be summarized to me as follows:

ROA opened up. A few posters here didn't care for it and when posting their opinions, felt the need to express themselves quite strongly in calling it a piece of crap, the worst thing they have ever seen, people who go to see it are the dregs of the earth, etc, etc. You get my drift. Right there, at step one, those detractors started on the wrong foot. How stupid could they have been to think they weren't going to get backlash from that?

Did they post sensibly, articulately, and did they stick to the topic? NO.

Now that the show has gotten almost all excellent reviews, and "seems" to be a hit, the fans deservedly are thrilled and posted about it.

The haters now had to justify their hatred and attempt to insult the fans once more.

the above post defines exactly what a sore loser is TO A TEE.

You, my dear haters, are the sore losers.

My opinion about this show and the people who like this show is just one single opinion out of everybody on this earth. If I want to isolate myself from those people who enjoy ROA, then just let me...even if it means I'm excluding the possibility of developing friendships with thousands of people. It's my loss, right?

My opinion is what it is and it is not going to change. I'm sorry if some of you are offended by it, but I am just being honest about how I feel.

You mean, you think it has the potential to eventually be a hit.

I seriously doubt if anyone here cares to change your opinion.

The issue is you on your high horse, not your opinion.

"You mean, you think it has the potential to eventually be a hit."

Nah, I wouldn't go so far as to say that. I don't have the ability to predict if that will happen. I put "seems" to be a hit in quotes to try and avoid the predictable argument over what makes a hit.

"Now you take that back immediately, Mr. Stalker McStalkerson!"

Don't flatter yourself. I couldn't be bothered to stalk you, but you somehow have it fixed in your head that any time I post in a thread that you have, I'm a stalker, and you label me as such. It's annoying, not to mention libelous. Any one with a few spare minutes can search to see how very little I care about you. But when you start calling people childish for their behaviors, while posting a tacky, crass photograph, in a very immature manner, be sure I'll call you out on it, just as I would any other hypocrite. Get over yourself.

okay WAT, if fans of this show are the dregs of the earth you are not a huge fan of the show or its fan base then why are you going to buy the cast recording?

ROA was recorded by New Line Records (and I believe they are also recording the movie soundtrack). This may shock some of you, but I will be buying this original cast album.

I'm more concerned with the idiot who started this thread and how his nurse let him anywhere near a keyboard without his meds.

Obviously more people are "seeing" 9 to 5 because there are more seats in the Marquis. Duh! They can't put more seats into the Brooks Atkinson. More people saw Young Frankenstein than is seeing The Norman Conquests because the Hilton has a TON of seats. It doesn't mean that Young Frankenstein is this masterpiece. Stupid. Just stupid logic.

Ripped, your "bigger theatre" defense would only work if RoA was bringing 100% capacity at every performance, which it's not.

You know, it's funny...God was at Rock of Ages last night, and during "Final Countdown" He was overheard in the bathroom saying the show was pretty kick-ass. The Cast...The Live Band... He was surprised that it was such a Fun Comedy...and not just a bunch of 80's tunes. He told the Awesome Bartenders that the Cool Waitstaff bringing people drinks to their seats on the Orchestra level was not at all distracting. Then Santa Claus, who was a bit tipsy, told God about the New York Times review of Rock of Ages, and God was like,"No way!" and Santa was all "Yeah, Dude." When the Easter Bunny started going on and on about Constantine Maroulis being the first American Idol contestant to be nominated for a friggin' TONY AWARD (WIN IT!)...along with ROCK OF AGES being nominated for BEST NEW MUSICAL, BEST DIRECTOR (the Amazing Kristin Hanggi), BEST SOUND, and BEST FOXY THREADS...all were speechless. One of the incredible members of the Brooks Atkinson Theater House Staff broke the silence by saying that they've never seen Audiences have SO MUCH FUN 8 Shows a week! SO YEAH DUMB THREAD STARTER...ROA FANS LOVE ROA...and so does God. He/She said so.

Hey, how do you get banned?

Rippedman. How many times do I have to say this

ROCK OF AGES IS NOT SELLING OUT. ALTHOUGH IT HAS VERY HIGH CAPACITY, IT'S NOT SELLING OUT COMPLETELY. IF 9 TO 5 WERE IN ROA'S THEATRE, IT WOULD BE SOLD OUT EVERY NIGHT. IF ROA WERE IN 9 TO 5'S THEATRE WITH IT'S UN-SOLD OUT AUDIENCE THAT IT HAS EVERY NIGHT, IT WOULD BE 59% FULL BECAUSE ROA HAS PROVEN THAT IT CAN SELL MORE THAN 7621 SEATS IN ONE WEEK.

In case you didn't understand that, I'll put it in simpler terms

Rock of Ages is not meeting its full potential.
If 9 to 5 were in that theatre, it would be meeting its full potential.

And one last time:

Rock of ages isn't even meeting its full potential and 9 to 5 would be if it were in ROA's theatre.

And I'm not saying that shows with lots of people seeing them are high quality shows. I'm actually using it as an example to show you how stupid you ROA's 'dregs of the earth' are. I'm saying that if it's legit to say that reviews tell us weather or not the show will succeed or weather or not the show is good, than I can say the same thing about attendance, in which 9 to 5 has a lot more people who see the show. ATTENDANCE AND REVIEWS DO NOT DETERMINE A SHOW'S QUALITY! DO YOU UNDERSTAND.

And just in case you use the "ROA is in a smaller theatre" argument, I'll spell it out for the idiots.

^ It's because you have to read them. I am sorry, I probably used too much big vocabulary. You ROA fans can't understand words other than 'eat crow'.

I'm gonna laugh my ass off when you are the one who will be eating crow.

ROA is making a profit every week. FACT. which means it will be around as long as it is doing just that. maybe it's not selling out, but it is a "word of mouth" show and the word of mouth (outside your snobby bubble) is AMAZING. The numbers each week are increasing. And I talked to the treasurer at another big show (tony award winning) who said he's never seen anything like the repeat business that ROA is receiving.

Now, unfortunately everyone around town is hip to the fact that 9 to 5 producers are buying their own tickets to make it look like their show is doing better than it is. I feel bad about that I really do. Unlike "Jazz" I really don't wish ill will on any show.

And you can talk theater size all you want. woulda, coulda, shoulda... producers don't willy nilly pick the theater they are going in. Those 9 to 5 people thought they could fill that joint. I am sorry for them that they can't but that's not ROAs fault. ROA producers were smart about A) size of theater and B) budget of their show.

fact is 9 to 5 is not doing well... not well enough to stick around longer than ROA.

And I would gladly meet up with you, Jazz for a battle of wits if you are up to take on an ROA fan.

"You ROA fans can't understand words other than 'eat crow'."

Please do not lump every Rock of Ages fan under this umbrella.

I've been watching this train wreck of a useless thread since the first post.

It's silly. I do not want 9 to 5 to fail at all. I hope it does well. I did not like the movie at all. So, I would tend to not want to spend an evening at a musical about it. That does not mean I want it to fail.

Rock of Ages is fun for the people who like it. There is nothing wrong with having fun if that is your kind of fun. I did not drink during the times I did see the show. I did not even know the music the first time I went. I laughed my a$$ off, though. It was fun.

Now maybe some of the posters think 9 to 5 is just as fun. Well, alright. I'm glad you have found something fun.

Personally, I will not put down someone for finding something they like.

Enjoy your show whatever one floats your boat.

Now, Blue, while I 100% agree with you, you KNOW that that kind of logic doesn't work here at BWW. I don't know why it doesn't, but that's the way it is.

I wish someone could understand why it seems that the fans of these two shows are up in arms against each other. WE didn't make the Tony nominations. I doubt that those that did visit this site or CARE about what we think.

Just for curiousity's sake: is there anyone that has seen BOTH shows and enjoyed them both? It must be possible.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
