I saw it on 6/21 (matinee), and it was great. As fresh as it was in 1996. It still has a huge fan-base, and its grosses are in the top-half. So, why? So many RENT-heads keep coming and coming and coming, so why would they want to close? Is it because they don't think it's relevant anymore? AIDS, drugs, and all of the issues in "Rent" are still very hot topics today. WHY?

Because it stopped making money. It was really running out of steam and playing to small houses. It's picked up a little, because its closing. If it weren't closing, the numbers would be as low as they had been prior to the notice.

To celebrate its closing, I'm making that dish every 525,600th second!
Ingredients
1 baguette
dried burger mix
tomato and basil sauce
[1] Make the burger mix up according to the packet instructions and roll into small balls. Cook according to the packet instructions.
[2] Warm up the sauce.
[3] Cut the baguette in half and warm up under the grill and put some of the balls into it. Spoon over some of the sauce.
* Great served on pasta with roasted vegetables.

I gained weight since I first saw Rent. Can I sue the estate of Jonathan Larson?
You did? Then I'll start my own documentary a-la-Super Size Me!

Yogurt...
Okay, I will really answer this. A show could have so much energy and a great cast etc. But it comes to a point where it needs to close. It's a had a long beautiful run and it needs to go. I have seen it 14 times (probably 16 or 17 on September 7th) and as sad as I am to see it go, it's time. And "RentHeads" aren't still going to the show, crazy Rent Movie Fan Girls are going to the show.
DrunkChitaRivera-you can't be serious answering his threads. he started 800 threads a day for attention. pls do not feed the sock puppet!

I think next time a thread like this happens, I nick one of Survivorsucks.com's "Frenchies in RENT" banners for this thread. granted maybe 5 people will realise it is suppose to be an insult but hey, it does tie in alot of things!
Have you ever noticed you can answer pretty much any "why" Broadway question the same way?
"Why are some Playbills black and white?"
"Why do tickets cost so much?"
"Why is 'Rent' closing?"
The answer is simple: $$$$$$$$$
'Rent' has done extraordinarily well existing as long as it has, but it is not existing well enough any longer to let it become a full-on dead horse that requires flogging. Any extra life that has appeared this summer, from cast and audience alike, is because the end is in sight and they're making the most of it while they can.
Next dumb question?
