FOLLIES could never fill the Palace.

It was mentioned in that other site that Ghost is eyeing the Place for March.
Priscilla, Queen of the Deserted Palace
I had no interest in seeing it, was dragged - sorry - kicking and screaming, and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
I know it's been criticized for being a sterilized version of the movie, but I don't see that at all. In what way, is it toned down from the movie? I don't see it.
I wish they would have kept Kylie as the object of obsession instead of changing her to Madonna but I understand the decision. Other than that, I don't see what people were expecting from a stage version of this that wasn't delivered.
It seems like last weeks TV appearance did not help either.
48.37% Gross potential. They have to be loosing money.
I saw the show and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, although that still isn't a ringing endorsement. What it comes down to is how many people want to pay to hear old pop songs lip-synched by deluded drag queens in weird costumes? I find Nick Adams quite annoying actually. I had no empathy for him when he gets attacked for parading around the town in drag.
I find her annoying as well.
At 49.74% gross potential this week... I am surprised closing notice has not gone up yet.
That theater must feel so creepily empty.
Possibly by September.
I don't think the success of BOM is affecting Priscilla one way or the other. You can't really get tickets for Mormon anyway. I just think the average tourist doesn't want to see a disco inspired musical.

No but considering the fact that BOM is so high in the grosses right now with all the hype and all it seemes to be overshadowing a lot of shows on broadway
Ehh. I suppose. I still think ti is just a simple case of not a show anyone is really that interested in.

They should just move to a smaller theater. It's a great show but the Palace is huge and hard to sell out. I think they would do really well and run for a while longer if they were in a smaller house.
I imagine a move to a different theater would be very expensive.
It really confuses me why it isnt doing better business. i actually LOVED it!!! I couldent have asked for a better show. I have seen tons of Broadway shows and this one is definatly one of my all time favorites.
i think many people may be turned off by the gay overtones and lets face it- it isnt excatly the most ideal family show is it?
My mother didn't really want to go for this reason but she ended up loving every minute of it LOL.
Also i think many think it's just about drag queens which it isnt- it has a great story and alot of heart too. But many arnt aware of it. If it's true that the show didnt do very well on Pride week then there is something wrong here!
I didn't care for the show one bit, and I went in with high hopes. But in talking to people about the show, before and after I saw it, I can kind of see why it doesn't appeal to the 'tourist' crowd. It's just not everyone's cup of tea.

:..i think many people may be turned off by the gay overtones..."
Overtones?!! The story is about two gay men and a tranny. That's not exactly an "overtone". It's the actual tone.
So those this mean they are bringing Bruce Villanch in? I don't think a re write is going to do anything.
NY POST
47.09% this week. My guess was that it would close the same day as Catch Me. But I think the notice in that case would have gone up by npw. I think it will go till December now. And close after the X has rush.
Unless they have an excellent advance (which seems unlikely) this will be closing soon. It won't make it to December. As far as a notice not being posted yet, the only thing that affects is the employees. They get two week pay regardless...the only difference is are they working those weeks or not.
But isn't there a union rule with a specific time required between the notice and closing? Or has that been altered?
The union rule is two weeks notice with pay. The show doesn't actually have to be open, just that the actors are getting paid for those two weeks.
because ain't nobody in middle america wanna come see a bunch of boys walk around like slutty queens. aight. but i loved the show. loved loved loved. but i dont know what they were thinking in briningg it to NY. christian standards still rule most of this country. fortunately, and unfortunately.
material girl was the best number in the show. freakin' hot. loved it.
