I am curious.. Is Bette Midlers name above the title? Sort of like Oprah Winfrey presents "The Color Purple"? It did help that show. AT this point it couldn't hurt.
I believe as of now she is just listed as one of the producers. But she seems to be front and center promoting the tour . Who knows.. if they start getting desperate enough they might do it. The tourists will know who she is.
I did hear that the show was packed on Sunday night.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Why do you guys bring this thread back every week? People can look at the grosses themselves. The reason it isn't doing better is because not a lot of people want to see it or the people who do don't want to pay full price. There mystery solved.
I like that the thread gets brought up every week. The better question should be.. why do you have to bitch about it every week? Just don't click on it and shut the hell up. You all bitch if there are more than one thread on a subject and you bitch if there isn't. Shut up. Stop telling people what they can or can not do.
You just told us what to do? I can bitch if I want. I never said stop. I asked why you guys do. Okay, please read the post clearly before you make a comment.
woodyactor, it possibly could have been close to selling out for a few shows, but the other shows must have sold around half capacity. It averages out somehow or another.
IMO, this is a case of too little, too late. It hasn't been promoted very well and its marquee is lost at the Palace under the jumble of larger and more eye-catching billboards. Probably playing the Palace wasn't the greatest idea in the world in the first place -- maybe something like the St. James would have been better for the success of the show. I still had a ball and will try to see it again. BTW, I think the thought of it "playing through the winter" is being overly optimistic -- end of the year is max, in my opinion and maybe sooner. Sad to say.
The Palace and St. James have almost the same amount of seats, both around 1,700, with very similar gross potentials of just under $1.5 million at both theatres. They also both have difficult-to-sell second balconies, so the St. James really doesn't offer any particular benefits over the Palace. And in its favor, the Palace has more seats than the St. James in its Orchestra level (over 800) and a better location for Times Square and TKTS visibility and walk-up, versus a theatre on a side street.
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.
