Like I said, I don't know what the story is, I just know on ticketmaster it said canceled.

You can't buy tickets to opening night? Is that true?

dramamama611 thanks for the info. I had no idea you couldn't buy tix for opening night. I've never tried so I didn't know.

Interesting that it's OPENING night yet CLOSED to the public.

There's no notice on their twitter or anything saying the performance tonight is canceled? Anyone walk by the B.O and see any sign? I'd go, but I just got home from that part of town/work. I won't believe it until I see a second confirmation! It's just too rich!

Before all you non-briefers get too excited, I noticed last night that this evening's performance was canceled (uh... not that, uh... not that I was trying, uh, buy tickets or anything **sweating, tugging collar**), which was well before the reviews started rolling out this morning. Unless they were bracing for it.

Opening night is a night for the producers, the actors, all the design people and their families and for guests of those folks and the cast.

If/when there are leftovers, they will be put up for sale.

The show is canceled tonight because the cast, crew, creative team, and producers are all drinking. Heavily.

Closing it now is the best way to save whatever is left of Julie Taymor's rep. But they haven't made any smart decisions so far.

Based on mysteriousgrowl, I'm going to go with the assumption it may probably possibly may not be canceled. They have been selling out so much that I think it could be that they shut down online sales in prep for a night's performance since they just don't need that avenue of sales anymore.


Just hypothesizing. I'd assume we'd hear a tweet or release or something by now if it was really off.

The highest grossing show on Broadway is not going to close because of some bad reviews. You REALLY can not be so stupid a to think it would. Can you?

I think March 15th is going to be the least exciting, uneventful Opening night ever.
(Unless they are planning on sacrificing another actor)

tonight's canceled because it was supposed to be opening night, same reason mar. 15 is "canceled" on Ticketmaster = not really canceled, just a closed show.

Yesterday was supposed to be opening night, which was put on sale when it changed to March. Tonight's performance was canceled when last night was supposed to be opening night, as a lot of shows take off the day after opening.

All of the entertainment news shows (E!, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, etc.) covered Spiderman's "opening" and discussed how reviewers went in. All the shows pulled negative quotes and set the tone that it is a very bad show.

The show is in serious trouble.

RE: Comment on David Merrick. In 1965, Breakfast at Tiffany's, which had looked like a "sure" thing at the outset and was pulling in a sizeable advance, ran into so much trouble that Merrick closed the show before the scheduled Broadway opening -- which, to my mind, translates into even Merrick knew it was hopeless. Had he been involved in Spiderman, I have a hunch he would have done the same thing -- like, last year.

Tonights performance has always been cancelled ever since they moved the opening to February 7th. They always had the next performance off. Same thing for when the opening was January 11, the following performance was cancelled.

Any time I have ever seen opening night tickets on sale before the day of, it was a small show with a small cast and crew (and therefore, fewer friends and family members to invite). SPIDER-MAN is anything but.

Wow, so much drama.

This performance WAS cancelled/taken off sale back when it became the opening. Then when opening was delayed until March, they added an extra show on MONDAY. So there will have been 8 performances this week - with Tuesday as their day off.
