I agree, best actor to Travolta?
I'd add Nikki for best actress, but except for Travolta and Blonski, and although Im a fan of the film, I don't think that any of the supporting actors deserve a nod.

Actually, I think James does, but his role is too small.

I have a feeling it could be a real possibility in the Golden Globes Comedy/Musical category.

Yes. JT will get a nod. He deserves one. He brought humanity to the role and big box office numbers to a film musical.

Actually, while watching this Godawful film, I thought Pfeiffer could very well nab a supporting nod, if competition isn't too stiff (no pun intended).

I think it'll get a couple of song nominations.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Um... look, we all enjoyed "Hairspray," but is everyone being sarcastic, or are we all really that deluded?
This is NOT an Oscar film, nor is it trying to be.
It might get the song nomination, and some spots in the Musical/Comedy category at the Globes, but there are NOT Oscars in its future.
Not a knock on the film, it's a blast, but there's nothing about it that I could see the Academy (yes, even the Academy who loved "Chicago") embracing. Even if they go ga-ga over it, they'll feel its "beneath" them to nominate.
I mean, Travolta for Best Actor, really?? Is this a joke?
I loved Blonsky, Pfeiffer, Walken, Marsden, Kelley, Janney and Liked Latifah and Snow, but I thought Travolta struck an awful, irritating chord every time he opened his mouth.

It will get nominated for best song and lose to the 'can do no wrong' non-traditional "musical", Once.

But Dench, unlike Janney (who was severley underused), at least had a good amount of time on screen compared to Janney. Dench was in the movie for twleve, Janney was in the movie for what, three?

No it won't get any
it's a fun good movie...but it def does not deserve any Oscar's. Not at all.

Oscars for Song, Costumes, Set Design and Sound Editing are not an unrealistic option ! But I am sure it will sweep the Golden Globes, in all the Musical/Comedy categories !!!

Some of you seriously believe that Blonsky will get an OSCAR nomination??

It might get nominated for design, but I doubt it'll win, which is a shame because visually the look is so spot on.

Yeah, count me among those SHOCKED by people thinking that John Travolta will grab an Oscar nom for this. I thought he was dreadfully miscast. I would rather have seen an actual female playing the role instead of him, actually. I found him to be very distracting every time he opened his mouth. I couldn't forget that it was JT in a fat suit and in a dress. Whereas, Mr. Fierstein's interpretation of Edna worked wonderfully.
I agree with possible nominations for song, costumes and art direction.
And how wonderful was James Marsden? On stage, every Corny Collins I've seen has been forgettable. Not bad, just not the kind of role that stands out. Marsden made it work much better.
Michelle Pfeiffer was fine, but nothing special. She's not a great singer (and yes, I've seen -- and was unimpressed by THE FAB BAKER BOYS). Her dance number was edited every time she had to kick or show any sort of extension, so it came across like she could dance (a la Richard Gere in CHICAGO).
"Run & Tell That" continues to be my favorite number. Loved it.
