I get a chuckle out of all of the Negative Nancys here who just know for a fact or think or predict this and that about the Oscars YET I know of only one member of the Academy here and I know how he's voting!

The Oscars are political and rarely are they based on talent.

- Melissa Etheridge (who I love) won best song from An Inconvenient Truth to bring even more attention to the film and global warming.

- Crash winning best picture over Brokeback Mountain

- CHER has an Oscar - c'mon people!

Maybe Hairspray will get nominated for best song and possibly best adapted screenplay (Borat did!).

I just saw the film yet again, and I thought I'd post my thoughts after another viewing.

I loved Travolta even more this time. He wasn't a bit distracting, and I really forgot I was watching Travolta. Of anyone, he has the best chance at an Oscar nod.

If not Travolta, my next pick for an Oscar nod would still be Walken. He was wonderful in his role, and those Hollywood folk just LOVE him.

Pheiffer is probably the only other one I could see getting an Oscar nod. She was perfect in every way. Wonderful casting! She was just wonderful.

As others have stated, Blonksy and the rest of the cast don't really have an Oscar moment (like Hudson had with AIATY and I AM CHANING). However, I would say Queen Latifah does. I KNOW WHERE I'VE BEEN is powerful and heartfelt, probably the score's best written song.

I forgot to mention my dislike toward Tracy's hair in YCSTB. And her costume. They just didn't work for me. Very out of place.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Look I am one the biggest Hairspray movie supporters and I remain optomistic- but realistic when it comes to Hairspray garnering accolades.

Sure it has potential to win a good amount of awards- but It depends on a lot of things. For one, what else is and will be out this movie season - and how they may do.

I find it trivial to say if the movie will or wont. I'd rather point out the acheivments and be suprised if a nomination is given.

Technical awards - Hairspray may do well.

Oscar nominations? Lets wait for the Golden Globes first - that will be a good indicator of what may come.

I think if the producers push John Travolta as supporting, he might have a chance at an Oscar nod. I mean, it worked for Jennifer Hudson's Effie and she won! And he actually is supporting someone in the film, unlike Effie.

Otherwise, the film might get nominations for Costumes, Sound Mixing, and Original Song.

There is a huge difference with him and Jennifer Hudson. Jennifer Hudson was RAVED about in all of the reviews and she was arguably the best part of Dreamgirls. John Travolta has gotten mixed reviews and by no means is he the stand out of the cast.

He is a former nominee, though, and it's arguably his boldest and best acting in years. They love giving comebacks a nod.
