Will Motherf*cker Extend Again?
#1Will Motherf*cker Extend Again?
Posted: 5/31/11 at 8:48pmAfter it has recently extended its run through july 17th, does anyone think it'll extend again? I'm thinking they may wait and see how they do at the Tony's and see if they generate additional buzz but its grosses are pretty decent. Any thoughts/insight?

Posted: 6/1/11 at 10:33amIt depends on the actors in the show. Chris Rock cannot extend past July 17th (or so I've been told). So it depends on whether or not they can get a suitable replacement.

Posted: 6/1/11 at 11:41amI hope The Rock or Vin Diesel do it next. That'd be a good fight to watch.

Hell, I'd pay to see The Rock and Vin Diesel do it.
I'd pay a LOT to see that. And even more to join in.

Posted: 6/1/11 at 6:36pmDoes the show even need Rock or a Rock-level celebrity known outside of Broadway? Rock's name probably helped the show initially but now that the word and reviews are out, I don't really believe that many are seeing the play to see Rock anymore. I sure won't be.

Posted: 6/1/11 at 6:41pmYes it needs a star. Rock's name wasn't filling seats, as there was talk of closing unless the reviews were good. When Rock started doing publicity the box office finally picked up.

Posted: 6/1/11 at 11:55pmI actually really loved their marketing. I thought "Wow, they aren't pimping out Rock's name to get people into the seats" like "Bengal Tiger" was doing with Robin Williams (Who isn't even the lead). But then the show wasn't doing well, etc. I'm glad it's doing well now. I don't think it's a great show, but I wasn't bored. I just didn't care about it. But glad others are enjoying it. I thought it seemed very, like, early 90s?

Posted: 6/2/11 at 4:06amI hope it extends! But Rosie Perez? No way. Besides that fact that she's way too old for the part, I can't imagine ANYONE doing that part as well as Elizabeth Rodriguez. She tears up the stage and breaks your heart at the same time. I think Yul Vazquez is pretty irreplaceable too. Same with Cannavale. I could see them extending without Chris Rock and Annabella Sciorra but I hope the other three stay in the show for however long it continues to run.

Posted: 6/3/11 at 9:52pmBobby Cannavale is the real star of this show, not Chris Rock. It shouldn't matter if he extends.

So that means that Rock's name is selling tickets now?
I have passed the theater a few times in the past few weeks and have noticed more African Americans at the box off. I could be wrong but I suspect that the word finally got out to the rest of his fan base that he is doing this play. I know a lot of people who are fans of his that had no clue he was doing a play on Broadway when the show opened.
