I remember at the time it was open, many thought the Bridges of Madison County marketing hurt the show.

The rep revival of two Neil Simon plays in 2009 (Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound).

It was awful. Not suggesting the replacement will win any wards, but it did much better to capture the tone and aesthetic of the show (that imo, is much more appealing than the original). I might have actually bought a full price ticket to the show if the marketing had me more intrigued.
Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

Having a sitting and slumped and sad looking maid as your artwork didn't bring interest obviously.

I also think the artwork and logo for the tour of Bridges was just as bad as the original.

Didn't Bridges change marketing teams during its run? I guess it happened when they changed posters from the farmhouse red to the stary night poster.

Something Rotten clearly hired someone who didn't like the show. They were always saying negative things about it, and making fun of the show, yet somehow stayed hired for the whole run. Some companies keep failing upward.

I have never seen such a poorly run twitter account than the one for Kinky Boots. It serves no functional purpose. Zero fan interaction and really have no clue who they are catering to on twitter.

I thought that the Broadway logo for "Chess" was horrible.

Recently, "Bridges" was pretty atrocious and "Gents Guide" had some of the best marketing and social media game I've ever seen in any industry.

Really? I really liked SR's marketing campaign and I wished the show had been as clever.

Dear Evan Hansens marketing really needs to be changed up. The artwork on their marquee is about as interesting as watching paint dry. Especially when next to the lavish Great Comet design.

what ads are you referring to? i thought most of their ads were very clever
bridges had a hilariously terrible commercial that reminded me of a Summer's Eve ad

I was watching something on Youtube. And, the commercial that they showed prior to my content loading was the commercial for the upcoming revival of Hello Dolly.
I know it's not print marketing, but regardless, it's bland as all hell and if I weren't a theatre person it wouldn't do anything to me to want to get tickets for it.

Something Rotten's ads are great. Bridges was terrible. Not sure what to do, but it just looked cheesy.
I still think Hamilton's is awful considering the show. It's just not as iconic as a lot of shows.

I think Something Rotten's marketing is terrible in that it in no way captures the essence of the show. I saw it with a group and was delightfully surprised, laughed the whole time. The ad campaigns are not congruent with the spirit, message, or content of the show.

Most recently, Bright Star. Did you know that beloved American superstar Steve Martin wrote a musical? Well most of the country did not. Additionally, that entirely bland and vague artwork could not have been less enticing or telling of the show's warmth and tenderness if it tried. Really abysmal work all around.

Marketing is about way more than just advertising and branding but those are definitely the most effective forms for theatre and easiest to judge
I cant tell if people commenting about Something Rotten are joking or just didnt 'get it' but their branding and advertising was brilliant and clearly worked .
I thought It Shoulda Been Yous artwork was awfully simplistic and cheap looking

Not necessarily the worst but I thought the "Dating then and now" video ads for SHE LOVES ME were kinda cringey. There was also that dumb tagline that didn't make any sense in early ad materials but I can't recall it, like the not-so-romantic musical comedy or something? The pink was a tad much too, though I thought the ads with the diamond and production photos were much nicer.
Don't get me wrong love the show and adored that revival but its ad campaign was meh for me.
