Worth trying to change my Oh Hello ticket?

I stopped by the Lyceum today to see if there were any rush tickets left for tonight's Oh Hello. (As expected, there weren't.) I had looked online at availability before heading over to see about a backup plan, and decided to splurge on a full price third row mezzanine ticket for the final performance next Sunday night. Before I had a chance to say that, the lady at the box office told me she had a front row center balcony ticket for that final performance for $89, and that it's "a great view, but I'd have to sit up straight." She never said the words "partial view," and now looking at the physical ticket I can see the faintest hint of that "partial view" stamp. Reading around, it sounds like the balcony at the Lyceum is kind of a nightmare. So... I'm feeling a little duped, and am kind of annoyed, particularly because it's a personal rule to never sit so far away that I feel like I'm not immersed in the show. If I go back tomorrow, what are my chances of being able to exchange that ticket for the full price mezzanine ticket I was planning to get in the first place? (I know there's no refunds/exchanges, but I'd think they'd want more money...no?) Or am I being crazy? Is the Lyceum balcony really not that bad? Should I keep this ticket since it's a $80 difference? Would love any advice.

I sat front row centre when I saw the show and it was perfectly fine. The bar is absolutely not an issue, and as long as you sit up you get a full and perfect view of the show.

Also, it's a comedy show, you really don't need to worry about being close or immersed. Just enjoy the laughs!

That being said, if you really feel that you'd rather be in the mezz, try asking the box office nicely. They were very accomadating of my requests in December.

I had a similar experience last weekend! Friends were visiting and one of them is an amateur standup comic and wanted to see the show. We were planning to do rush to save money but it was FREEZING that weekend (teens) that we decided to go to the box office the day before. We asked for 3 seats adjacent to each other and unfortunately they only had premium left. Then we asked about what time to show up for rush, etc. and I think she felt bad for us and then told us there are partial-view seats available but not full-view. Lo and behold, she sold us those partial-view balcony center seats for $79.

I had done rush before back in November and sat in side balcony front row seat for $35. The fact that we didn't have to wait the next day in the freezing cold was a-ok with me to pay $79. For Oh Hello, I think front row balcony was fine. When I was looking for tickets, I recall the last performance was included in the promo OHGIVE24 where side orch seats were $89. Not sure if that's still available.

Regardless, I think you'll be fine. Enjoy the show!

@senorvoce2, the point is that the woman selling me the ticket NEVER said "partial view" or "obstructed view," and the stamp was clearly out of ink, because there's maybe the barest hint of the corner of ink on the ticket - it certainly doesn't say any legible words. If she had been clear upfront, this wouldn't be an issue, because I never would've bought the ticket in the first place.

And even though there's no guarantee, I've had no trouble exchanging tickets in the past. There are still other seats available online.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've bought tickets in person, so I have no frame of reference for what "you have to sit up straight" means. To me, I thought she meant that the stage would be distant because the balcony is high up, not that there would literally be a bar in the way. To me, if there's a bar in the way, I think they should be obligated to say "there's a bar in the way."

I typically buy orchestra and mezzanine tickets. Why on earth would I have even clicked on the balcony online if I wasn't interested in sitting there? I'm thrilled for you that you've memorized the seating of every theatre in New York, and this is all so obvious to you, but most of us haven't. I certainly haven't. I've never sat in a partial view seat, and I don't think I've seen a show at the Lyceum, so it's not something I even considered.

And if you're finding this so tiresome and tedious, stop reading the thread. I was looking for advice from people who have seen the show from those seats.

Saw the show last night from front row balcony (right) and the view was pretty horrible. It was all that was left when we went to purchase tickets but I definitely didn't enjoy the show as much as I might have constantly having to jockey for a clear line of sight. Whatever happens, hope you enjoy and are able to make the best of it.

I rushed the show today and was told the same thing about sitting up straight from the lady at the box office. It was side balcony front row and I had no issues seeing over it because most of the show is them in the middle of the stage anyway. My only complaint is the leg room is horrible, after an hour in I couldn't wait to stand up. The show was great though, just go enjoy it.

You'll forgive me if I think it's pretty funny that you've been here over 7 years, are still a swing and THIS is what you decided was worth investing 10 posts on. You gave your advice and should have left it at that after one post. The other 9 were you acting all butthurt cause someone didn't immediately accept your advice. In point of fact, you get 0% of your requests granted if you don't ask. They can just say no and she'll know at least she tried. No harm in that.

It's bad enough to give terrible advice. Worse to be indignant when it's not immediately taken. And for the record, telling someone to "know your place" and mocking someone's job is to me at least as offensive as calling someone an idiot especially to someone who's gone out of his way here to help people with questions about SOR.

Wanted to say that I decided it was worth switching for a handful of reasons, so I went to the Lyceum today and it was no problem. I was very nice about it, the lady working the box office was very nice about it, and she even said "you made the right call." To be fair, I'm sure since I came in yesterday first asking about a rush ticket, that she assumed money was my biggest priority; I should've spoken up then that I was willing to pay full price for mezzanine. Thank you to those who gave me your advice! I'm sure it would've been fine from the balcony, but I want to be able to see their faces better, it's the final performance, and I'm happy with my decision.
