Would Cyndi Lauper be the first female to win as composer AND lyricist--?
I can't think of any others...
You mean biological female?

When I hear someone referring to a woman as "female," I think "Female what?"
Only 3 women have won the Best Original Score Tony Award and only 1 has won for both music and lyrics:
Betty Comden won 3 times, all for lyrics, 1968 Hallelujah Baby!, 1978 On the 20th Century and 1991 Will Roger Follies.
Lynn Ahrens won for lyrics in 1998 for Ragtime
Lisa Lambert won for both music and lyrics in 2006 for The Drowsy Chaperone.
No, She will make Herstory!

According to IBDB, Drowsy has music by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, so if Comden was always half a team then no woman has ever won a Tony solo for both music & lyrics.
Break a leg Cyndi! She could be the first.

I'm sure Cyndi will be the first. I wish her the best of luck!

It's unfortunate Dolly Parton didn't win for 9 TO 5. She also has a brilliant musical mind, having composed literally hundreds of songs. Not to hijack this thread, but she's been closer than perhaps some may realize to joining the EGOT club (having been nominated for all four major awards). She already has 8 Grammys. She's been nominated for an OSCAR twice (and was robbed the year she lost out to 'It's Hard Out There For a Pimp'). I was hoping she'd move a little closer w/9 TO 5. Perhaps if she goes through with plans to write another musical, this time about herself. Ok.. back to the immensely talented Cyndi Lauper now...

Thanks Idina. Realized that after I posted it. Thanks for pointing that out (and thank you also for your profile pic. Excuse me...).
I love Cyndi, hope she wins! Who would have thought she would be the first woman to win the Tony for best score!!

If she wins, she won't be the first - see OKBroadwayFan's post on this same page. And Cyndi, not Cyndy fyi.
Betty Comden also won for WONDERFUL TOWN in 1953.
Love WONDERFUL TOWN.
She would make history as the first solo woman to win Best Score. And as the first solo woman to win for music.
Sorry for the typo Adam, it's already fixed.
And what about Broadway Local's post?
