I'd like to invite all of you to join my Facebook Group to petition "Saturday Night Live" to bring Angela Lansbury and Carol Channing on as co-hosts. I've heard Angela speak several times and heard Carol at the Barnes & Noble in Lincoln Center last night and they're both so hilarious and such national treasures. Betty White is a television treasure... in every decade, hence why it merited for HER to host SNL recently.

Angela Lansbury, unfortunately... is only remembered by the mainstream masses (and who SNL caters to) as the old lady from MURDER, SHE WROTE. No one can even remember her films, aside from THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE or maybe BEDKNOBS & BROOMSTICKS.

Carol Channing is only a Broadway staple -- heck, she couldn't even have film or television career (and no, an Oscar nomination for her few minutes in the 1967 film THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE does not merit saying she had a film career).

No. No... and no. The mainstream masses have NO interest or care for these 2 legends, unfortunately. Neither does Lorne Michaels.

But there's the rub. If the mainstream masses aren't interested in the host they will more than likely just opt not to watch SNL that night. SNL is hardly considered "must see" TV these days.

And quite honestly, I doubt Lorne Michaels would listen to another Facebook petition. Doing it once is an amusing novelty, doing it twice and he'll be telling everyone out there to bombard him with every idea they have. As you can see, there is already a rise in the practice now since Betty White. Imagine how much more the practice will multiply if he does it again.

Also, Betty White was making a bit of a splash with talk show appearances, commercials and guest spots on tv shows. There was a momentum going even before the facebook campaign. it was inevitable that she was going to do something big.
