Zellweger film JUDY is film adaptation of END OF THE RAINBOW

So it turns out that playwright Peter Quilter is co-writer on the film JUDY and it turns out the film is indeed based on his play END OF THE RAINBOW.  Now the comparisons came full circle.  Per Quilter, his play was more fantasy based but the film adaptation will be fact-based.

I am a self-identified Judy Garland purest and loved Judy Davis. This looks and feels like a total disaster. Renee will (as far as I've read) be doing her own singing instead of using Judy tracks, as Judy Davis did. She does not have the acting nor singing chops to be touching this very sensitive time in Judy's life.

MoveOnGypsy - did you even bother to read the damn article linked and Peter Quilter's comments regarding Zellweger?  Also, as a "self-identified Judy Garland purest", I'm more than sure you ARE aware Garland was not at her best vocally during the period covered in the film, so having Zellweger's vocals can suit the material.  Judy Davis played Garland from the early 1940s till her death, so for all the obvious reasons she needed to lip-sync the vocals as she was playing portions of Garland during her heyday.  Zellweger is not.  JUDY is NOT a biopic about the life of Judy Garland.  It is a film ABOUT Judy Garland during the winter of 1968.

I did and I have read several articles about the upcoming film. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm also aware of Garland's vocal capacity during that time period. Judy sounded better then compared to Zellweger in Chicago.

I also have serious doubts about her vocal ability. This is Judy Garland we’re talking about. Even at her lowest, her talent was unbeatable.

Judy at her very worst is still superior to Renee at her very best.

Of course they didn’t read the full article. They take a headline and draw their own narrative around it.

End of the Rainbow wasn’t a bad show. Not the best direction not leading lady. The film is going to be very different from the show and I have hope in Renée Z.
