Did anyone hear anything positive or negative about the reading? They had a great cast onboard for it so hopefully they reprise their roles for Broadway. Anyone excited about this show?

I can't wait for this show to get on Broadway. It is one of my favorite books, so I hope it is done well. I wish I could have seen the reading of it.

One of my favorite books, too! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they've done it justice. I would love for this to work.

I can't wait for this show! If you go to their website there is a msg board there where people have talked about the workshop! You can also purchase the 23 track DEMO CD that they made a couple years ago! I'm getting excited! re: a tale of two cities reading

I have the demo CD and like it, but still think some of the songs could use some work. I hope James Barbour plays Sydney Carton on Broadway.

I thought it was neither bad nor good. I came out of the reading last year and didn't like not hate it. I however thought. Hmm did I just see LES MISERABLES. The show has a distinct feeling and flavor of Les Miz.

Considering that he is one of the backers for this project hence why he was in the reading I would think he would be.

JohnyJune, I feel kind of Les Miz as well. Maybe because there were so many performers from Les Miz cast.

I think the show need a lot work. James Barbour is the best of the show. (How could he be bad anyway.) but I feel it is kind like Jane Eyre, a mediocre score with great performer. Beside "Out of sight, out of mind", most songs are not very impressive.

I really liked it. I saw the reading on my birthday, and it was pretty good. it still needs a little work before it hits broadway but I will be happy when it hits. Its one of my favorite books too.

Perhaps a dumb question, but...
With no official director currently attached to the show, who is directing the upcoming late September readings?

i saw the a few of the original presentations and saw the concert last year. this show is such a carbon copy of les mis
(music wise) it's not even funny.
The show has so many subplots, that you never get a real sense
of story out of any character except for Sydney Carton. J. Barbour is impressive, and i know that Cheyene will bring his considerable talents to the production, but one wonders about all this money raised for this production 14 million at least....
then you announce another workshop in two weeks??? without a director? And why David Bell in the first place, with no broadway experience....kinda makes you go hmmm?

"And why David Bell in the first place, with no broadway experience...."

As far as I have been able to tell from conversations with other people, David Bell is a well respected director. I bet many directors with "broadway experience" would agree that he was a great choice. I don't see the problem with getting new talent on Broadway. We need more of it otherwise Broadway is going to stagnate.
