I've been reading around and trying to find some mention of it... does anyone know if the concert will be recorded for a cd or video?
I'd be surprised...there are already plenty of recordings available.
I highly doubt it, what they should do is film it for a commercial DVD release. With a cast starring the likes of Victor Garber, Donna Murphy, Victoria Clark, Mike McGrath, JoAnne Worley and Philip Bosco it'll be sad to see it go unrecorded in any format. I am extremely excited about this concert, I'll be there opening night and can hardly wait.
I second the DVD suggestion
I third that suggestion. A DVD would be fantastic.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there ALREADY a DVD Concert of FOLLIES?
A DVD a butcher would be proud of
The editing looks like it was done with a meat cleaver. It is painful what they did to Carol Burnett & "I'm Still Here"

Capn, the dvd focuses mostly on the process of putting the concert together. There's footage of the actual performance, but it's far from complete.
Ahhh wow. You tell me this NOW when it's FINALLY number two on my Netflix queue!!? LOL It'll still be interesting, I bet, but I thought it was the concert...
The documentary is OK, but many people have the misconception that it's an actual recording of the full show. Needless to say, it isn't. It's actually pretty disappointing in the way the numbers are butchered, as Mr.Roxy said. That is why I believe a DVD of the Encores! production (which at this point is considered an event, thought probably not as much as the Lincoln Center concert was) would be ideal and suitable.

Will Encores be doing the book as well? I think if the 1985 used the book at all it was very minimal.
I was even madder that the concert DVD pretty much decided that Elaine Stritch doesn't deserve a whole song.
Here's my vote for a DVD of this cast/production. Think anyone is listening?
There is no way they are going to broadcast this production. There are barely any performers taking part who are known outside of New York.

i am praying right now to the theater goddesses for a recording!
audio, video, whatever, just let the magic last!!!!

- I'm assuming they will. If they don't, I'll be very upset! I want nothing more than to see the prologue staged in all its glory.
I don't think you can expect anything in a minimalist concert version of FOLLIES to be staged in "its full glory" - I can see it now - the ghosts of the Follies girls appear: in head-dresses and black cocktail skirts.
LJay, I think we'll have to settle for a less grandiose staging of Follies, it is a semi-staged concert after all. I do hope they keep most of the dialogue though, I dream of seeing Victoria Clark making her entrance to the empty stage as Sally Durant, I hope it doesn't stay as a dream.
Couldn't they broadcast this concert as part of the Great Performances series on PBS in the same way Passion, Sunday in the Park with George, and Into the Woods were?
They certainly "could" but why would you want the television broadcast to be yet another "concert version" of the show? They should at least wait until it can be done with costumes.
Besides - if Bill Condon is seriously talking about making a movie of FOLLIES (which he apparently is) they aren't going to do a television airing of it right now...

- I should've been more clear. For me to see the prologue staged in it's glory. Is to have a ghost of two, Sally's monologue, Ben & Phyllys' entrance, and Buddy's entrance. Otherwise, I would just hate to see it played like a straight overture like in 1985.

I'm going Thursday night. I bought my ticket the second I read the press release announcing Donna Murphy had been officialy cast as Phylis. However, now I'm mostly thrilled about seeing Victor Garber singing live on stage in a Sondheim show (I'll be drooling every second he is on stage as I think he is one of the most attractive actors).
I was not aware Bill Condon was interested in Follies, I remember reading an interview with Rob Marhsall when Chicago first came out in which he said that he'd like to adapt a Sondheim show for his next movie musical and he mentioned Follies and Into the Woods as the more likely choices. It'd be interesting if Marshall and Condon teamed up again, though with the kind of acclaim Dreamgirls is getting, Condon will probably fly solo for Follies if he indeed pursues the project.
I'm going to the Saturday matinee.
I'll be in the cheap seats Saturday afternoon.
