What about "The Secret Garden?" Obviously, it's not the main focus and one part is bigger than the other, but I've seen it done with twin brothers before and it's really powerful (esp. "Lily's Eyes!") Of course, you need to have an insanely talented child.
"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."

BOYS FROM SYRACUSE isn't really about brothers. It's more about just two guys who look freakishly alike and therefore switch roles. It is a comedy and since you are looking for a tragedy BOYS FROM... isn't for you. You're really better off with BLOOD BROTHERS.
Ummm.... Boys from Syracuse is the classic "twins separated at birth" scenario, only done with two sets of twins, first divined up by Shakespeare, then redone by Rodgers and Hart. So it's totally about brothers. But definitely not tragic.
It's not a musical and it has a happy ending (Sort of) but you should look at 'Ring Round the Moon. It's and adaptation by Christopher Fry of a play called L'invitation au chateau by jean Anouile (sp? my French is bad and I don't have a book handy)
It revolves around one twin brother trying to upset his brothers engagement during a summer evening ball. It was the property that Wheeler and Sondheim originally wanted to set to music but they settled on "Smiles of a Summer Night" instead when they couldn't get the rights..thus "A little night music". Hugo/Fredric is a great part for an actor!
The Boys From Syracuse is what first comes to my mind. Ive never seen the show, but I have read the Comedy of Errors by Shakespeare(the play it is based on). There are two sets of identicle twins separated at birth. There are the Antipholus and the Dromios. The play is very good. there is also a modern day movie based on it with I think Bette Midler. i forget what it is called
