Hi...I'm looking for a musical/play where the central focus is the rivalry between two brothers, preferrably identical twins. Anyone know of any?

...does this post have any relation to your name, Captain_Obvious? Or is this a genuine question? Only saying this because your criteria fits "Blood Brothers" EXACTLY as the amazing Margo already pointed out.

aspiring...
I agree BB as Margo said was my first thought, but I don't recall them being identical twins (to be nit-picky)

Captain Obvious is my nick name...no relation to the question. and I've heard about Blood Brothers, but I'm not familiar with it. But the things I've heard about it aren't exactly what I'm looking for.

My sincere apologies then, Captain_Obvious.

Let me recall...I'm pretty sure they don't HAVE to be identical, but then again if they were the story would be different because they'd suspect being brothers...hmmm anyone know more of the show?

Don't know much about "Two Gentlemen of Verona"

just the characters identitcal, i'm smart enough to know how to make identical parts on stage w/o using identical actors. anyway, but thanks for the input.

All ready been there babe, but I'm looking for something a little bit more...tragic, maybe.

(I've played Algy, so I know its not a very tragic play)

Blood Brothers seems to be the one here Captain, it's definitely tragic. Look into it, it's supposed to be very good.

All right...I'll order the book, but I may just end up writing my own piece.

And uh..on another note...is that your real pic, aspiring?

How about True West? The brothers could easily be identical, since they more or less exchange places with each other by the end, and it's definitely tragic.

Bloodbrothers is tragic all right, but not all that good. Maybe it is just me, but when a show tells you how it is going to end at the very beginning, that isn't very solid dramaturgy, you know?

It is easy to sit through and everything fits, it just isn't that imperative.

The Boys From Syracuse (original NOT the recent revise) is a lot better. However it would only be tragic if you forgot it was a comedy.

As Edmund Gwenn said on his deathbed, "Dying is easy. Comedy is hard."

Oh, Brother! by Michael Valenti. But it's a musical comedy all the way and the brothers are not rivals.

BOYS FROM SYRACUSE isn't really about brothers. It's more about just two guys who look freakishly alike and therefore switch roles. It is a comedy and since you are looking for a tragedy BOYS FROM... isn't for you. You're really better off with BLOOD BROTHERS.

A Tale of Two cities involves two unrelated men who bear a striking if not exact resemblance of each other. It is not available to the general public as it is heading to Broadway though. (Actually there are some versions by other composers you can find if you search around online that you might be able to get a hold of if you are interested.)
