I'm new to this whole message board scene. This post marks me losing my message board virginity. [tear]
Definitely have to say Mamma Mia--I did not like the London cast at all. It's one of those cast recordings that you listen to once or twice, and then its banished back to the case (or floor...wherever) forever.

Posted: 8/17/04 at 10:17pmIt took me quite a long time to get into "The Boy From Oz". (But I bought it along with the Broadway recording of "Taboo" and I fell in love with that.)
#53re: cast recordings you regret buying
Posted: 8/17/04 at 10:18pmI bought Marie Christine and have not been able to get into it...
#54re: cast recordings you regret buying
Posted: 8/17/04 at 10:23pmI also regret buying "Steel Pier." Also, "Victor/Victoria" and "Annie."

I just can't listen to TITANIC at all, it just doesn't appeal to me whatsoever and I am a pretty open minded king of guy who likes "Wicked" and "Caroline or Change" two completely different musicals, but TITANIC just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
Oh and "Mamma Mia" gets on my nerves with those accents and synthesizers out the wazoo!

Oh I KNOW he didn't say A Little Night Music....I must have read it wrong.
Boy From Oz is collecting dust on my shelf!

Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:19amThe CSR of Miss Saigon. I'd already owned the original cast recording, and now I can't remember why I thought it would be a good idea to buy the CSR; probably because I was under some misguided impression that it would be as well-put-together as the Les Miz CSR. I eventually got rid of it. The cast just couldn't match the original London cast. Updated On: 8/18/04 at 12:19 AM

"....tick, tick, Boom!" I can't get into it at all, except Raul's "Why" is brilliant.
"State Fair" - why?
And the one recording I'm thrilled I bought on a complete whim: "Taboo, OBCR"

Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:34amI don't like the new "Little Shop" either. That is probably only because there isn't a thing about Hunter Foster, or his sister, that I like. They both just irritate me.

Some Like It Hot
Aida (all the song sound the same to me. Sorry)
South Pacific (Kiri Te Kanawa-Jose Carreras)
Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang (sounds like a theme park ride)
The Life
The Full Monty (never could relate to it)
Pal Joey (Helen Gallagher)
Sunset Boulevard (London Cast)
Martin Guerre (US)
Fame (London Cast)
Don´t mean to offend anyone, just adding my two cents.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 12:59amPersonally, I think it's sad that any of us feel the need to apologize for not liking something on here, just because we know that a group of teenagers and wannabe Broadway Stars (good luck!) are going to be burned at the stake for saying we don't like "Wicked" or "Rent" It is possible for someone not to like these two really overblown musicals and detest Sutton Foster, Hunter Foster and Roger Bart.

Isn't Some Like it Hot called Sugar? And when did they make a US Martin Guerre CD? And how can you not like Patti on Sunset Boulevard...and how can YOU not like Patti in Evita? Ugh! The horror. j/k. Um...there is very rarely a cast recording I buy I can't get into at least one song... but the list is
John and Jen
Fame(TOUR)
Suessical
Boy From Oz
Grease (Rosie revival)
Sweeny Todd (Concert)
Civil War
Scarlet Pimpernel ( I don't care how it's spelled)
They do nothing for me. There are however quite a few cd's I bought and tossed to the side that I later "rediscovered" so to speak. A few of those being...
Marie Christine
Wild Party (Lippa)
Floydd Collins
The Full Monty
The Fix
Bounce (Didn't like the production at first either)
Lil' Abner
Man of No Importance...
Already I've rambled...

No, Eponine, you aren't the only Miss Saigon fan. I saw the Miss Saigon tour (which my cousin Kristi was in) several years ago. Afterwards, she gave me the show's cast recording, and I still love it. I must admit that I am a bit suprised at how many regret buying the Urinetown and LSOH revival recordings. Not because I am astounded that someone might not like these "overblown" musicals or actors; just because I've never heard it from so many people on the message board.
Now, back to the ACTUAL thread, I regret buying the The King and I cast recording.
Also, I agree that Gavin Creel is the only good thing about the Fame (North American tour) recording.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 3:23amI, too, regret buying the recording of the LSOH revival.

wow i totally agree with you- i didn't like lachuisa's wild party at first, and upon rediscovering it, i fell in love... now i know all the words and what have you. i think it's that way with a lot of more complex work- at first it doesn't hit yours ears quite right, then you go back... same with floyd, which is a GREAT show and i highly recommend it to all you folks.
in regards to albums i regret buying, my useal policy is to steal other people's cds, and if i like it, i'll burn it. i mean, uh, buy it. however, there are a few that just make me go "eeew!"
-all of wildhorn (and ihave a friend that is obsessed with him... so i know there are a lot of devoted fans. don't burn me.)
-jane eyre (i love the actors but, oy vey!)
-Song and Dance (love you berni- but WHYYY?)
-lippa's wild party (i like most of his other stuff, but this didn't work for me)
-Boy From Oz (the tempo was WAY to fast on the whole thing. try peter allen's orginals, they're fabu)
that's really all i can think of right now

LSOH Revival cast recording.... no one can touch Ellen Greene as Audrey.
Miss Saigon (save for one or two songs)
#73re: cast recordings you regret buying
Posted: 8/18/04 at 7:33amA few people have mentioned "Song & Dance." I agree it's not great but I must admit, it's one of my guilty pleasures.
